I am experiencing heavy difficulties with the new BIAB 19 / Mac Version.
Let me try to explain it to you. For example. I am looking for an Instrument/Style. I hit the green Play button to give the style/Instrument a listen... it says "Audio Playback is already generated" ... but there is no sound, just silence, no "preview", preview might be the wrong word for that ... but it´s driving me nuts. I need to listen to the Instrument/style before I choose it. Has anyone experienced the same problems and would be so kind to share the solution with me?
Hello, Maybe a little more clarification will facilitate other answers ... 1 ° what style / instrument? midi, midisuper tracks, real tracks?
2° where does the style come from? category? type? other?
For me, two priority possibillities: 1) Band in a box / Preference / audio settings or options / Preference / audio settings 2) file / stylepicker ... and rebuild.
"but it drives me crazy" ... if you're not crazy, stop the music! So, everything is fine, in the best of all worlds jacques
Your English is fine. I use Band-in-a-Box for Windows but will try to help.
Are you using the StylePicker to sample the styles?
If so, look at the screen shot below. There are two places where you can playback style audio. I've marked them "A" and "B".
Are you using the "A" or "B" controls to sample styles? The choice makes a difference in how long you have to wait for playback to begin.
"A" uses your chord sheet. The style is loaded into memory and tracks are generated in memory based on your chord sheet. Once the tracks are created, playback begins. The wait for playback to start can be a long time based on many factors including how many bars your chord sheet is, how many choruses the chord sheet has, are the instruments RealTracks or midi and how much memory your computer has.
"B" uses a ready made audio song that might be stored on your computer hard drive or located on the PG Music website. If the audio song file is located on your computer hard drive the song will quickly begin. If the audio song file is located on the PG Music website it will take longer to start. There have been some instances where the song file can not be located so nothing happens.
If you are using option "A", then try putting a check mark in the checkbox I marked "C". Instead of creating tracks for the full chord sheet the program will create tracks for only the first four bars.
This is something that I experience a lot specially after updating to a new patch. I just reinstall the audio-midi plugin dmg to make it work but I find it burdensome. I hope this gets fixed.
Everything works fine when I use the chord sheet. But when I use the "Choose Style from song title" ... its just silence. I use the "play using current chord sheet" ... I´ve tried to rebuild. Nothing words.
I have all the files stored on a external hard drive. I run BIAB from the same hard drive.
It always says "Auditioning style from .... External Hard Drive - BIAB - Tracks ... and so on. But nothing happened. I tried to fix it in the preferences as well... no idea

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
