I know I haven't posted in quite a while. I have been busy with life and many, many activities. I did take some time in the past month to work on this little piece. It is a duet between Clarinet and Flute originally conceived in Band in a Box than developed in Finale and mixed in Cakewalk by BandLab.

I hope you enjoy the listen.

Love the mix of instruments on there. Do you have the BIAB info on them? I thought I heard an acoustic guitar in there. The piano sounds were good as well.

You have the duet mixed nicely too. I was able to hear them both equally.

Nice work Rich!

Thanks for the comments.
I used the _SOULBAL.STY but I did some instrument changes.

2330:Bass, Synth, Rhythm JazzFunkFat Ev 110 (SuperTrack)
2066:Piano, Rhythm NewAgeAnswers Ev16 110 (SuperTrack)
Drums were not BiaB but a midi file using Addictive Drums 2
The guitar is accoustic and is the Ample Guitar MII Lite using a line I wrote in Finale.

The clarinet is based on a melody from the Melodist *Slow EZ Pop - Rock Organ but then altered in Finale.
The Flute part is a counter melody that I wrote to play against the Clarinet Melody.

As you can see, the piece is developed using multiple tools and some musical writing on my part.

Nicely done smile I agree with Steve above - the instrument choice is superb, and the whole tune flows phenomenally well. A top tier mixing job, and it makes for a really engaging listen.

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Deryk. I appreciate the comments. Picking good sound instruments is very important to presenting the music in the proper perspective and light. I really liked the sound of the acoustic guitar as I developed this piece and it probably influenced me quite a bit in how the direction of the composition went.

Wonderfully melodic!

The effort you obviously put into this paid off well.

A showcase on the showcase forum of the power of BiaB
in talented hands.

Congrats!

Nice work but I think the drums work against the flow and feel - particularly the snare hits.
The section between the solos - particularly the piano motif seems od in tempo & feel against the more languid melodies of the solo instruments.
The solo parts are a nice development.

Mr. Rayer...

If being away from the Users' Forum for any period of time results in you posting something as eloquent, as sensitive, and as appealingly pop/classical in form as your delightful piece, Something About You, then, maybe it's to the forum members' benefit to just sit it out and wait for the next one!

It sounds like a main title theme for an initimate, moody but perhaps gently humorous, grainy black-and-white film from the French cinema of the 60's or 70's, something that the late, great writer/director/auteur Francois Truffaut could have made. It's also charming, wistful, and quite musically interesting in it's development.

The arresting pencil sketch of the unknown woman that accompanies the song on SoundCloud is a perfect match for the alternating mood of the song.

Thank you for posting such a diverting instrumental composition!

Most sincerely,

LOREN

Rich,
I enjoyed this, particularly the clarinet and the flute counter melody.
I tend to agree the drums might need toning down.
Lots of work went into this ( the Finale stuff is above my pay grade!) and the result lovely.

I am glad you listened and enjoyed the piece. Thank you. I will try a mix with the drums farther back in the mix and I appreciate the suggestion.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
