Seeing that I was such a crap surfer, broke my nose, nearly drowned, ended up in hospital for stitches I thought I would write a "surf tune" in the safety of my home studio!!
Using the Bass and Drums from BIAB really gave it the surf feel. cool

Ouch!

Glad you got some inspiration from that painful episode.

Fun tune, especially the descending bit and bends starting at 2:02.

Interesting all the way through. I liked it! smile

Brian, you definitely captured the surf-sound quite perfectly.

Good driving beat throughout, with a perfect choice of bass and drums.

cool ideas.
I reckon the lead guitar is a bit too over driven or fuzzy for classic surf guitar but the rhythm guitar is spot on.
I don't quite get why you've panned the lead and centred the rhythm - equally panning both would've made a better stereo image but I'd actually like to hear this in glorious mono.
Excellent playing through out and a cool surf melody!

Cheers

Hi Brian ...

This is the first of your songs I've listened to and I'm delighted I did. Glad you didn't injure yourself and nearly drown as you wrote this!

A really terrific surf song ... I grew up in that eras ... Almost 73 years old. I can see Annette and Frankie on the beach dancing to this. Cool stuff!

Wishing you the best and safe writing in the future!

Alan

Excellent! You have the surf genre nailed, Dick Dale would be proud.

Mix wise I agree with Ray, move that rhythm guitar off to the side and the lead more towards the center. At the moment the rhythm guitar is dominant, should be the other way around.

But great playing on both guitars, enjoyed very much!

Really nicely done - I feel the struggle, I broke my nose surfing too. Worth it though smile Loved the groove on this one, and you nailed that surfing vibe.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi,

Many thanks for all your listens and comments, all taken on board (pun intended smile
Agree about the panning a small tweak does wonders, the inspiration came from my mishap and Dick Dale such a legend.

Regards Brian

Ho Brian,

glad you recovered from everything and turned to something which is seemingly something you're far better in: Makin music.

A very enjoyable tune - sounds sooooo emjoyably Sixties - toe-tapping and mind-flipping --- excellent !!!

Cheers,

Stefan

Hi Brian,

Your surfing experience might not be a source of fond memories but your song sure is! It's really well done. You've captured that 60s instrumental sound very, very well. Love the lead guitar!

Kudos to you! I'd have no idea how to start writing in this genre.

Enjoyed my listen,
Noel

Brian,

I’m generally not one for instrumentals, but this was intriguing and really well executed. You’ve captured the “surf” sound perfectly. And it moves along at a perfect pace keep listeners engaged. Nicely done!

Best regards,

Deej

Hi Brian
Here in the West Midlands the only surf we get is in washing powder packets. crazy
Yes,a great Surf tune in the DD Cali style.
No subtlety here nor was there 'back in the day'.
Full on - and FUN!!
Great guitars.
Ian
