This is a brand new one that I hope some quartet or trio will hear someday, and want to do it.

When We Cross Over

It’s been a long journey, this life that we live,
seems the world is focused on take,
and a whole lot less give.
But there’ll come a time when, every knee shall bow,
and every tongue confess, then God, he will bless,
We got to make it somehow.

Chorus:
When we cross over, to the other side,
We shall see Jesus, that heavenly bride.
With all of our loved ones there,
in a place where beauty can’t compare.
When we cross over, we’ll have a heavenly ride.

Friend listen to me, he’s waiting for you,
come to an altar, he’ll carry you through.
He’s got you a robe and a crown,
you will be heaven bound.
You’ll have a mansion so bold, on streets of pure gold,
it’s there for you too.

Repeat Chorus:

I used Country Waltz w/ Piano swing
Roland VS-880 Multitracker
Cakewalk Sonar Home Studio
Sennheiser 935 mic

Mr. Fields...

My outdated Windows XP browser won't allow me to play your song, which is no one's fault but my own.

Ronnie, great job on this! That is the quintessential Southern Gospel song! Love the message and feel of the tune! I listened in my car but thought I might have heard a little bit of clipping on the lead vocal. Might have had the input gain a bit hot. Still thoroughly enjoyed! Thanks, Torrey

Beautiful lyrics, and your melody is very pleasing.

Your opening verse coincides with the message from today's sermon in my church, which was based on Philippians 2:10-11: "at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

Nicely done!

Hello Ron,

You made a very nice song with all elements of Gospel in it.
I only hoped to hear more singers in the chorus to complete that Gospel feeling, but your strong voice compensates a lot.
About the lyrics I hoped we try making a better world than it is, like you stated in the 1st verse. Crossing over is something I rather delay for some time...

Nicely done - your vocals soar on this one, and the instrumentation flows gorgeously. I thought the gospel elements worked perfectly - the tune has a ton of soul behind it.

Thanks for sharing smile

Hi Ronnie,

This is an outstanding write and equally outstanding presentation. I love the way that the groove is 12/8 or maybe 6/8 or maybe 3/4... depending on how the ear and mind hear beat, all are possible!

From start to finish, your singing and your arrangement are thoroughly engaging.

I really enjoyed the journey!

As usual, an enjoyable listen!

As Noel said, you're a bit slippery on the actual meter of the song, and you do some cool rhythms that catch the ear.

I thought the lyric We shall see Jesus, that heavenly bride was an interesting, because usually Jesus is described as the bridegroom - but that doesn't rhyme with ride, does it? wink

Darned it, you made me think! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Dcuny, you're absolutely right, I thought about it and I believe the lyrics should be, "we shall see Jesus, he'll welcome his bride"!!

Nice Ronnie!

Yep that'd be a good one for a quartet for sure.

Pitch it to the Gaither crew!
