Looks like Microsoft are forcing people on to Win10 from January.Pity cos I like my Win7.
Are there any operating pitfalls visavis one to the other where BB is cincerned?I dont use the 64 side,no idea even why it was considered so important, the 32 side does everything i ask of it.

no problem but if your sound disappears check the windows sound setting in control panel (or settings in Windows10) as Windows 10 sometimes changes the default setting.

otherwise you'll find no problems and Windows 10 is easy to adapt to. it's almost exactly the same as windows 7. the changes don't really affect basic users like you and me!

and i never use the 64 bit version either but it's important to some users.

Certainly for me, the transition was smooth, with no issues.

Win 10 boots faster also, which has been an added bonus. YMMV, but it's been a winner for me.

HI Wendy

All went smooth for me for 7 to 10.
Even my Akai audio interface Asio drivers worked without change.
Some may need updating for certain audio interfaces if you use them.
Focusrite can be a bit fussy on drivers i believe?

Good luck I think you will grow to like it.
Mike

I updated Win 7 to Win 10 but I had a few stability problems so I did a clean install of Win 10. I saved my data, formatted my HD, installed Win 10, then installed my programs and data. Since then all has been OK.

Since most programs are going 64 bit and that both 32 bit and 64 bit BiaB programs run perfectly in 64 bit Win 10 I would definitely go with the 64 bit OS. YMMV

Thus my suggestion is do a clean install of 64 bit Win 10.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

I migrated from win7 to win 10 about 2 months ago.
It gave me an opportunity to upgrade my ssd to 2TB and make a fresh install.
I kept the old SSD for safekeeping and dualbooting should I realize I forgot something.
Or an old client who wants me to fire up Visual Studio 2012 and write some C#.

With SSD's so cheap its an obvious upgrade to a PC.

The process was painless. Some UI changes to learn. Lots of stuff to delete/hide.
BIAB no problem.
Cortana must die... Make Bing go away.
The usual M$ stuff.

It does seem to boot faster and run better.

Thumbs up for me.

I went from 7 to 10 about a year ago without a problem. The GUI was harder for me to navigate but I am accustomed to it now. In fact, I don't even use/need many of 10's features and gizmos.

That's the way to go then you still have a bootable Win7 if you have any issues with Win10.

Thanks for all the answers.I intend to keep Wjn7 as is and 'the man what does' is fitting me a brand new HD in my tower with Win10 on it.
He says he will set up BCD (??).so I choose on switch on which drive I want. cool
Just about everything of personal value is on an external Seagate thingy so if the install messes up i still have all my music, photos, threatening letters etc safe.
It will mean a full NEW install of my BB tho and all the gubbins I bought from 2017 on-extra packs and stuff-hence my earlier Download Manager query on here.i just want to set DM running and go and have a cup of tea. smile Izzat too much to ask? confused

The BCD will give you a boot menu to choose the hard drive/OS you want to boot.
That's the way to go so if one OS crashes you can boot from another.
If you have Acronis or a free similar cloning software you can clone/backup your drive every week/few days.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
