I order very little online, and nothing from overseas, except for my annual BIAB for which I opt to receive on HDD.

Has anyone had experiences with ordering from overseas since they brought in the new rules, making GST payable on offshore purchases. If so, how is the GST collected?

I haven't had a lot of luck in the past with downloading after purchase (it takes forever, and usually crashes a few times before it's completed.)

How long does it take you to complete the download(s), and do you experience any issues?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Keith

Hi Keith,

Good questions.

I generally download most updates and patches and have downloaded even some Audiophile updates.

Even though it can take a good while, I also sometimes use a mass downloading management tool like DownThemAll. It takes care of drop outs and retries.

Presumably you're on NBN? (Although that doesn't necessarily mean an improvement in performance <frown>)

I can't actually recall what happened with GST last time. Someone else handled the delivery.

Other members will be able to help further I'm sure.

Hi Trev,
Thank you; perhaps someone else will chime in who has had first hand experience.
Yes, we have NBN, but it doesn't'really make much of a difference to the download speed (as they promised. Grrrr)

As an aside, I update BIAB each December, and my wife gives it to me for Christmas. Not sure how she'd feel if I downloaded it instead .... smile

There seems to be two parts to this:
1. What happens with GST? This seems to depend on the site, NI for example charge in AUD and have GST included. If you pay via PayPal GST is added. On some sites if you pay by Bankcard or Visa GST might be missed. So the answer is it depends on the site and their adherence to the Aussie GST.

2. The NBN? I have an NBN service which I have at 50Mb/s it gets fairly close to this speed (around 48Mb/s down and about 18Mb/s up). I find it very reliable these days but the speed stuff gets delivered at it often dictated by the remote end. NI for example take ages to deliver (but only seconds to hit your bank account). Izotope downloads take seconds, usually PG is fine but I had some issues last February but fine lately. Plugin Boutique is also very rapid (as are most places these days).

My experiences for what they are worth.

Tony

Hi Tony,
Thank you for sharing your experiences and insights. I think that I'll order the HDD again (when PG releases 2020) and take it from there.

Same as Tony...

For me, GST has always been added at the point of payment. Every once in a while I come across a site that doesn't include GST but that's pretty rare.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
