Does anyone think this is a great plugin? $34.99 right now for Black Friday. It seems like it might be a real worksaver, but I haven't tried it.

I use it here on every song we do. Brilliant plugin! It definitely does save a lot of time not having to manually draw in volume envelopes.
I got it for $29 a couple of years ago, it will probably go on sale for $29 again at some point if you are willing to wait. If not, $35 is still a good price IMHO.

PSA! W.A Production's Outlaw does pretty much the same thing (it's a gain rider). I never used Waves Vocal Rider, so I can't say how they compare quality-wise, but I can tell you first-hand that Outlaw is amazing! I use it on songs for which Janice digs deep into her contralto range  I'm yet to buy a Waves product that I have not been pleased with. Cheap and great...a most rare combo they are. Bud PS I doubt I would use many of the uptight acoustic bass RT's were it not for Waves Bass Rider. Do I ever wish I had it when I was frequently recording my upright.

I think it is a must buy no brainer. I use it on vocals, guitars, and most everything else that needs "taming"!
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

I struggle so much with my vocals. You don't hear them often because I can't get them out of the studio to the web. I just can't get a clean smooth appealing sound. I have kind of given up on "vocal effect processors" since I can't find one that help me. Garbage in and garbage out. If there was a magic bullet that I knew would help tame and clean my vocals I would jump on it.
So thanks for pointing to the QA Production bundle. The price is right. I just need more pushing...

OK, I also pulled the trigger on this one. I have a current project where I hear the vocal volume going up and down due to turning my head away from the mic to view the lyrics - what an amateur I am...  It will take some time but lets all promise to come back over time to report on how these worked out. Maybe a lesson to be learned here. Sometime two cheap just means two cheap.

My Vocal Rider is missing at the moment after being forced to dl the new version of waves central which takes forever to even load. I'm gonna try Outlaw mentioned above for 15 bucks. I'll eventually get Vocal Rider back it's a hassle every time I get anything from Waves - free or paid it makes no difference. Vocal Rider is a good volume automation plugin. I got it on sale for 29 bucks long time ago. If I paid the yearly update fee it would cost a lot more in the long run for the few waves plugins I actually use regularly. Some I paid too much for so I always wait for their best sales after being burned a few times on ones that I thought did not live up to the hype. Waves makes it harder and more confusing than it has to be to register/download/activate products compared to other brands. And for those who never have an issue - in the words of Brisco Darling -more power to ya. I'd love to be one of the lucky ones without glitches with waves central. Bottom line, it's a good plugin but I wouldn't pay more than $29 for it.

You can only have the plugin installed on one computer at a time and I transferred Vocal Rider for my PC to my Mac and had to pay an upgrade fee because it would only work on a older Mac OS. I also own the Hornet AutoGain plugin which is like the Vocal Rider but it is on sale right now 70% off which is $3.60 in the Euro. You can't beat the price and works just fine and writes automation. As a bonus there is no copy protection and works with Mac and PC at no extra charge. Here is the Link. Hornet AutoGain
