Hello,

Are there any Garritan users out there who can help?

I bought Garritan Jazz and Big Band 3 from PGMusic in December 2011 and initially
used it a lot, but when I changed my PC in 2016 was using it less so didn't bother
to install on the new machine.

As I recall, the initial installaion was fairly painless.

Today I tried, with limited success to install on my Win10 Laptop.
On opening the Aria player a pop-up said that some files were missing, but it
opened and accepted the registration key.
When I loaded the VST dll into RealBand, none of the Garritan instruments were
available in the drop-down, only the PGM set from SampleTank.

I'm assuming this is a conflict between an eight year old Win7 application and
Win10 OS. I don't anticipate using it enough to warrant a re-purchase, but,
since the app is still called JABB3 there probably have been no major changes
since 2011, the cheaper upgrade option might solve my problem.

Thanks in advance for any help.

There have been updates the Aria Player since 2011. Go to the Garritan website, log in, hopefully you did set up an account, and you can DL everything you need. If you didn't set up an account then you may have to use the compatibility install. After the install you should be able to update for free.

I have JAZZ3 from the same era as you running on Win 10 1909 OS so I know that it does work.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Mario,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I don't recall opening an account, but according to the installation notes from PGM from 2011, I had to for the registration key.
Since I have no idea of the password, and have since changed Email I've just put in a help request to Garritan, so hopefully they can sort it on Monday.

Meanwhile, what is he compatibility install you refer to.

Right click on the file's exe and select troubleshoot compatibility. Win 10 will try to figure out what Windows version this will run in and emulate that version. Sometimes you may have to select the last Windows version JBB3 ran under; you select that from a supplied list. This comes after Win 10 tries to figure it out and got it wrong.

Good luck

That did the trick.
I wasn't aware of that function, useful to know.
Your help is much appreciated.

I'm glad that you got JJB3 up and running again.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
