I have loaded a midi song. i set the desired style to country. biab populated the 5 channels including bass. when i play the song, the bass is one octave higher than i want. how do i transpose just the bass 1 octave lower? i tried copying the bass channel to the melody channel to transpose it there - biab says no data. i went to preferences and changed the bass from -1 to -2, no luck there either. i'm running biab 2015 on a win7 machine.
If you loaded a MIDI file, then all the midi tracks would be found as a multichannel MIDI on the either the Melody or the Soloist track -- it's most likely on the Melody track because this is BIAB's default.
When a MIDI is loaded into BIAB, the accompaniment functions of BIAB are disabled. You'll see this as an 'X' on the left side of the style name. This is shown on the image below.
Is this 'X' present on your song file?
If it is, then even though you have a style loaded and generated, it won't sound and it could be this that's stopping the bass from being transposed because the bass you are hearing is possibly from the multichannel MIDI on the Melody track and not the Bass track.
Alternatively....
If you are hearing the style and the bass is a Realtrack... because this is audio, it will not be affected by transposition. The transpositions that you describe are only related to MIDI tracks.
If your loaded midi file is like Noel indicates and populates the Melody track here is how I would attempt to transpose the bass.
Edit\Copy Special\Copy/Move
After you have determined the Bass Channel number- On the Copy/Move page deselect all channels except the Bass Channel and Copy/Move it to the Chord Chart Page Mixer Bass Track.
With it located on the Mixer Bass Track, you may be able to use the Preference\Midi Options\Channels page to lower the octave and replace the Bass with a better sounding patch. The Track is frozen to preserve the midi notes but some functions of the track still can be modified. I'm unsure if the octave change is one of them. Just try it to see.
If it isn't, I'd mute the Bass track located in the original midi file located on the Melody track and replace it with either a Supermidi Track or RealTrack Bass.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
