It sounds like you might be changing the notes of the bass on the Bass track.
Steve has asked if the bass is a Realtrack or a MIDI track. It's a good question and the answer to it is important.
1. If the bass is a Realtrack, the notes on the bass track are notation. They do not tell the Realtrack what to play. The tell the BIAB user what notes the Realtrack is playing. The reason Realtracks cannot be changed is because they are audio files and are fixed.
2. If the bass line is MIDI, and it's on the bass track, every time the song is regenerated, it will create a new bass line. If you want to save a MIDI bass line, make sure to freeze the track.
Thanks Noel. So how do I determine if it's midi and how do I freeze it. And maybe a question as to why it would generate a new bass line each time? That does not make sense to me. If, as a band leader, I tell the bass player "That was a great base line you played, let's do it that way." And then he plays something different each time we play the song...the arrangement goes to the landfill.
So how do I determine if it's midi and how do I freeze it. And maybe a question as to why it would generate a new bass line each time?
Midi tracks show up yellow in the BIAB mixer on the chord sheet. real tracks show up green.
Biab can generate different versions of each track part and may well generate a new version if you have changed any thing in your tracks so that they still flow nicely together. You freeze a track by clicking on the snow flake on the mixer track you want to freeze if you really like it. Mike
Is it possible that the style is defining the instruments? If so changing them may have no impact when you reload. There are several places where you can ensure that your changes are retained.

Got to the chord sheet and sure enough, it was midi, How can I change from Real tracks to midi. Also, when I finally got to the chord sheet, I couldn't get out of it, back to the regular view, whatever that's called.
Use CTRL+T to switch views between full-screen and standard views.
Also, to answer you above question about why BIAB generates differently each time is because it's designed as musical backing software.
In the scenario you gave to your bass player, while you might have isolated a riff or something and asked the bassist to keep that in the performance, most of the performance would have involved the bassist keeping the same feel for the music and not always exactly the same notes. This is how ensembles who don't have every part fully notated tend to operate. BIAB works on this principle.
If you want to set Stylepicker just to show MIDI styles, this can be done by using the filter. (Follow 2, 3, 4 on the image below.)

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
