I can drag a BIAB song into the BIAB VST plugin in my DAW and that works. But for some reason I cannot drag a BIAB song file onto the main screen of the BIAB program like the video shows. I have tried the SGU,MID, WMA and so on and no luck at all. Is this a Windows thing or a setting somewhere?

Check this option in BiaB: File > File Utilities... > Associate File Types (songs, styles) with Windows Hopefully this will resolve (it is working here for me)

Thanks but that did not do it for me. I am able to click on a BIAB song from explorer and it will pull up BIAB and load it in. The drag and drop don't seem to work for some odd reason.

If you are running Band-in-a-Box (or any program) elevated ('run as admin'), drag and drop from Explorer can't work - perhaps that is what's going on?
Interesting, normally I only ever run elevated but after the upgrade I now noticed that the new desktop shortcut is not running elevated. Yes, if I run elevated it doesn't work.

I run BIAB as admin but does not make any difference still the same.
Thanks
Does not work for me either. It appears we are being told NOT to run as admin. After all these years on being told to run as admin. However, now I can't find a way to run this any other way. EVen when I disable the run as admin, it still does.

I'm not sure I follow. If you run as admin it won't work. Check to make sure that it's not running Admin as default. Right-click desktop icon, select Properties > Advanced, uncheck the checkbox, click OK then Apply:

What I mean is I have always had the program file set to run as admin. I did try and disabling that to see if it would make a difference but it did not so I changed it back to run as admin. It seems I am not the only one with this? My Drag and Drop works great with BIAB files in the VST3 plugin in Studio One Pro just not in the BIAB program itself. Thanks

What happens when you try to drag a file onto Band-in-a-Box? (Note - Band-in-a-Box typically doesn't need to be run as admin. People tend to recommend it as a troubleshooting step when trying to solve a problem without a known solution).

These pics I took of my screen when I attempt to drag a BIAB song from the folder over to the BIAB chord screen. The mouse turns into the "no can do symbol".

I saw that earlier and confirmed it is related to "running as administrator". As for me and my family, I'll keep running as administrator, as there are other ways to open the files.

You can run BIAB in non-admin mode (until something weird happens and you find you may need to go back to it - most likely related to a plugin).
I remember also that the Aria Player (that Garritan instruments use) would not allow you to drag/drop your license file on the interface if you ran it in admin mode. So it's not just BIAB affected by that.

Thanks John I will keep that in mind. I don't use plugins with BIAB as I work in Studio One for that part of it but weird things happen yes!

Just one more feature which doesn't work! I can not turn off UAC. I have unchecked all "run as admin" in the shortcut but it still appears to need UAC to run. Even if I just open the exe file, UAC steps in asking me if I want to approve this program to make changes. I can only answer yes. If I answer no, it don't load BIAB.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
