My Santa Man

After a remix with new fx and mastering of Santa Man (for a Songtradr submission) and since it’s obviously smile a Christmas tune we thought we’d do a rare repost from three years ago. In the spirit of the Holidays perhaps you can forgive us for that!

So here’s version 2.0 of a little two minute Christmas ditty….

Happy Holidays and thank y’all very much for your time to listen to our songs and comment over the past year. We appreciate you!

J&B

For the tech folks...

Janice vocal: Rodes NT1 mic > Scarlett interface > Nectar 2

Drums: RD Blues Rock > Waves CLA Drums
Doubled snare: from above kit RD file > Waves CLA Drums

Bass: RT 2426 Rockabilly > Waves Bass Rider > Neutron 2

Guitar Rhythm: RT 1854 Country Boogie > Waves Unplugged

Piano Rhythm: Midi Super Track 1799 Southern Rock > Logic Pro Grand Steinway sound > Waves CLA Unplugged / comped from multiple generations

Harmonica: RT 423 Blues > Logic Pro Overdrive sim > EMT 140 Reverb sim / comped from multiple generations

Santa Man
© 2016-2019 J. Merritt & B. Merritt

my santa man don’t hang with them elves
no he don’t hang with them little bitty elves
we take care of business all by ourselves

he don’t come crawling down my chimney
no he don’t go crawling down my chimney
he walks in the door looking so fine to me

he don’t have to land a sled up on my roof
he don’t have to park no sled on my roof
he’s my santa man, i don’t need no proof

i don’t need my gifts waiting under a tree
yeah, i don’t need no gifts under a tree
my santa man, he brings it straight to me

J&B,
We forgive and thank you for the repost- this sounds great ( as it always did)!
Two minutes that put the right kind of harp and that bluesy angel voice into Christmas.

I remember this one, I see I left a comment over there back then. Well worth a repost, such a fun song, and always a treat to hear Janice do her thing smile

I don’t recall how it sounded then but man, you knocked it out of the park with mix V2! Sounds fantastic through my studio ‘phones.

Very much enjoyed hearing this!

This sleighed me.
ALL excellent as usual.
If I write an xmas song it'll have been inspired by your chorus but will start,
My Santamental...

Hi J and B,

Just listened to your nice boogie-song. Sound like the old days, but better of course, because of the vocals!
On SC I wrote they (sometimes) call me the Santa man too. Is that a good thing? For you?

Nice Christmas too,
Hans

Dave, thanks for all and especially for commenting on the vocal and mix. The Waves LinMB can often really open up a mix. Hope you and yours have fun holidays!

J&B,
Coool sounding blues. Janice, your performance is stellar! Bud, I did not hear this first time, so will comment on what I am hearing now. You done excellent work in mixing/mastering this. Got nice vintage vibe to it, as this style of music deserves, yet everything is audible and vocals are clear! Thumbs up to one of my favorite creative teams!
BTW, love the photo.

Thank you for sharing!

Misha.

Hi guys,

This is way too good to be oh so short. How about sticking a couple of guitar breaks in there after each pair of verses.

It is the blues after all. And a damn good one. smile

Keep 'em coming.

Janice and Bud,

This version pf "Santa Man" really does the job and then some.

There's nothing I like better than listening to Janice singing against a blues backing. Her vocals and the blues sit together so comfortably that it's like that proverbial match made in heaven.

I'd love to be able to write in the blues format as well as you two do. Unfortunately, it's a genre that challenges me so all I can do is sit back, listen and enjoy... and when it's a J&B creation, that's a really, really easy thing to do!

Many good tidings for Christmas and 2020,
Noel
