Hi everyone. I've been a member of this forum for a long time, but I haven't been here in a while. I recently had a problem when after rebuilding all the realtracks, everytime I try to start a song, the song never starts playing, it just has a circle going round and round.

I am using biab 2019. Anybody has an idea why this would happen? It was working perfectly fine before the rebuild. Thanks in advance.

Hi moltopiano,

That's an unusual problem.

First off, is this happening with both BIAB 32-bit and BIAB 64-bit?

Here a couple of thoughts that I'd try if this is my problem.

1. Close BIAB and unplug any USB MIDI devices.

2. Right-click on the startup shortcut and select "Run as administrator" -- this is different from logging on as administrator.

Does the problem still exist?

If you answered "Yes", read on...

1. Start BIAB

2. Under the "Options" menu, select "return to factory settings".

3. Choose the MOST option intially (make sure you save your settings before doing this -- this is also under Options).

4. Exit BIAB and restart it.

Any luck yet?

5. If not, try "return to factory settings" again... this time choose ALL options.

If still no joy, go to the URL below and download the latest update for BIAB 2019 and install this update (it's build #634). Check that the program paths are correct when you get to that part of the update.

Let us know what is happening after trying these.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Noel, thanks very much. I will certainly try all the above and see what happens. the problem started, when I created a user style. It wasn't coming up in the styles list, and I tried the rebuild option. Now I was able to see the style. I tried it on the song I mage, and it started this spinning thing. I figured, I must have screwed something up with the style.

So, I tried generating a melodist song, just to see what happened. I tried this the day before and it worked just fine. Same thing with the melodist song. I've never had a problem with band in a box, and I've been using it since 1990. So, I figured, let's see if this something that regularly happens out there. But I will do the above. Something is bound to work. Thanks again for your help.

Hi Dennis, thank you once again for all your help. I had to do the

"return to factory settings" again... this time choose ALL options."

that brought it back to life. It's now playing again normally.

Thanks for all your help. I hope that when I install 2020 it doesn't start acting up again.. smile

That's always the step to take when something acts unlike the way you know it has always acted.

If you've been using BIAB since 1990, you're one of the longest-using among us. You have two years on me. Drop in here more often.

Thanks Matt for the invite. I usually posted back in the day when I had an issue. I rarely had issues. Then after not posting for a long time, my original name no longer worked. I opened up this account. And then after not using it for years, that no longer worked. But at least I was able to remember what email I used, and I got this one back.

I may have to post again over a problem I'm having with band in a box working correctly with a user style. We'll find out if it's a user error or biab error... smile

But yeah, back in 90 and 91, I thought that this was the best program ever, allowing me to practice against a modifiable midi setup. It has evolved considerably and to this day, there's nothing like band in a box.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
