This one came about because I tried hard to find relaxation/meditation music to suit me, but my musician's ear kept getting grated by what I deemed inferior offerings. Then, this afternoon, I was listening to the Bach C Major Prelude for Piano and the Prelude from the Cello Suite No. 1 and ... well, I created this. Hope you like it and that it relaxes you :-) https://jamesdelsono.bandcamp.com/track/peace-2****** Song Summary ************* Title: Peace - 15 December 2019 File:Peace - 15 December 2019.SGU Key=C , Tempo 65, Length (m:s)=4:18 No intro. 66 bar chorus, from bar 1 to bar 66. Just wanted to put this out there by way of thanks to its creators - you have done an IMMENSE service to musicians everywhere. Thank you.

Hi James,
I'm a huge fan of Bach. He was one of the history's most amazing composers.
You've certainly managed to create a nicely restful vibe with this work. Kudos to you.
And I'm with you... BIAB is an incredible program. I've been using it since 2006 and even now, I find new things that I didn't realise it could do.
Thank you for sharing. All the best, Noel

I'm not sure John Stephen would've be pleased to be reduced to ambient/meditation/background music. The 1 part - Allegro of his Violin Concerto in A Minor is stirring as intended. Often it's a mind set that causes us to register orchestral/symphonic music of certain periods as relaxing. If the music isn't arresting then it's a failure unless it was set out to be a lullaby or ambient. James, your piece Peace is pleasant but the constant beat and the anticipation of variations in the fills of the drums kept me paying attention as did the odd bass note that I wondered about. The sudden drop of sustain on a chord, like at 0.07, in a sparse arrangement also grabs my attention and I wonder if it's intentional or an artefact of BIAB. I think my problem is I don't shut down unless I'm very familiar with the piece being played.

Ray, I agree with you ... JS Bach is the greatest composer of all time - and I talk as someone who has been privileged enough to play his music for more than thirty years now. My Bach comment was more than a little tongue-in-cheek, of course ... but, if you know (as I'm sure that you do) his Prelude for Klavier and his Prelude from the Suite No. 1 for Solo Cello, you'll surely be in on the joke, right? :-)
Your other comments are spot on, of course. The variations of the drums as well as the odd chord drop were something I could do nothing about - they were part of the BIAB tracks. They bothered me, too ... but I thought that, all in all, I'd "release" the piece anyway. Back to the drawing board, therefore? :-)
One of those days, I shall post a video of myself playing the Bach Chaconne on the violin on here (if one is allowed to do that, of course) :-) I'd be genuinely SO curious to see what you guys would think - the quality of the musical ears on here is above many a classical audience's ones, I'd say. But, until then - back to the BIAB drawing board I go, it seems ... :-)
THANK YOU for your astute, spot on and kind comments!!!

That'd be great - seriously - find a away to do it. BIAB is a little unpredictable when it comes to those things we discussed. What creates excitement and anticipation in conscious music undermines ambience. I suppose. EDIT - I'm not familiar with the clavier piece but being a poor cellist but serious Du Pre nut I'm very familiar with the cello prelude.

Interesting. I don't really think of songs with this much drums as 'meditative', but to each their own. Thanks for posting, I enjoyed the listen, despite the drums and occasionally "interesting" bass note. I could easily imagine a melody instrument on top of this... Say, a violin. If only you had a way to make that happen.

David Cuny: haha - is that a hint you're dropping there, re: violin? ;-) We'll see what one can do, haha :-)
Greg and Ember: thank you!!!
Ray: I'll try to post something on here - failing that, I'll see if I can send you a Private Message with a link to some of my meagre violin efforts, haha ... for when you've really got nothing better to do than listen to them! Yes, you are of course spot on about excitement and anticipation vs ambience. It's so hard to get everything just right and so tempting to just "settle"! I'll have to curb my tendency for the second one when posting any future songs on here ... I do find it easy to say: "ah well, this'll do" when it comes to these songs ... more discipline needed on my part, it seems :-)
Jacqueline du Pré is, of course, a giant of the cello ... though I sway more towards Yo-Yo Ma's playing, myself - if I ever was forced to choose, of course. The Elgar Cello Concerto is my favourite (then the Dvorak and the rest :-) ) - and du Pré is right up there with it. Ah, I could talk about this kind of repertoire for hours!!! haha.
Thanks everyone for having the patience of saints with me - and I'm not joking :-)

I have a JDP playing the Dvorak & a St Seans with her husband conducting - she hammers the cello & in one phrase it sounds like a fuzz guitar - no mean feat. YYM is cool & I have some of him but he doesn't have the amorality/madness of the lass.

Very relaxing, James, perfect for this time of the year when we all are getting hectic instead of calm. A really nice one.
Happy Holidays and all the best for the year ahead.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
