My Scot songbird friend, Isla Grant(qv), will be touring Australia in 2021. Besides "Waltzing Matilda" what other songs should she put on her playlist?

I must have some Ozzie blood because that song stirs it up. I suppose that there are a lot of Irish over there after the big potato famine and purging of the Irish jails, eh?

Yes, "Waltzing Matilda" is well and truly up there for me too, Donny

I might suggest the song "I am Australian". It's powerful and represents the cultural diversity of this land.

Hello Don.
I am definitely not an Australian but would like to suggest
"And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda" by Eric Bogle.
One of my all time favourite songs and artists.
Cheers
Richard

I am an Aussie and I would have to agree with “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda”. All about the ANZAC Spirit.

And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda is a song I play both at Australia Day and ANZAC Day functions. (Or shows close to that time). Another song I would suggest is True Blue by John Williamson (if you can get permission) or Tenterfield Saddler by Peter Allen.

And I firmly believe Isla Grant would do a really great job of any one of those songs. It has been some time since I saw Isla perform.

Yes, that is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard, and that's really saying something.

Isla contributed five songs to my latest album and she is a beautiful human being with a divine voice. I consider it a high honor to call her "friend." We chat nearly every day.

Don,

Any of the Seeker's songs would be popular with older Australians and I'm pretty sure they would still work with younger people who have not heard them... they're all very catchy.

I hope the links below help.
Noel

==========

Slim Dusty was a very well known Australian country singer. His most famous songs were...

1. Pub With No Beer

2. Duncan

4. Road To Gundagai (lot's of people have sung this one)

John Williamson is another popular singer - he was famous for the song below...

5. A Home Among The Gum Trees

There's also a second version of Waltzing Matilda that I suspect few outside of Australia know about. It's well known in Australia, though...

6. Waltzing Matilda (Queensland version)

From Peter Allen...

7. I Still Australia Home

8. Tenterfield Saddler

Here are some other songs to consider...

13. Up There Cazaly -- this is about our football game

15. I've Been Everywhere (Australian version)
(this is one of my favourites -- it will also help with getting to know some of our country's places)

Hey Noel, I've got those CDs! I love those songs. Especially Waltzing Matilda, Tenterfield Saddler and I Still Call Australia Home, Only 19.

My younger mate suggests men at work, midnight oil etc. There is one great New Zealand Band - I think - Crowded House.

Natalie Imbruglia, Delta Goodrem, Christine Anu.

There's also some great Aboriginal musicians.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
