I just want to point out that you hit a sweet, lilting note in the first verse on both "buzz" and "was."

As I've said before, you have quite the expressive voice that brings forth the emotion of a song.

I really like this--a smooth production!

Bravo...

Hi Floyd,

Lets start at the beginning - loved the intro.
Very atmospheric and with the promise of things to come.

And, of course lots of good things followed on.
A super-emotive vocal delivery and then that kick drum arrived.
Even with my current hearing problems that cut through loud and strong
and underpinned the track beautifully.

Thoroughly enjoyed several listens, even though you know I really like
your heavy side best!

All the best for 2020.

A GREAT WRITE!!!! I love deep, philosophical songs, and this is a great one!! A lyric that shines from the first word to the last!! This is my favorite, which I would describe as "brilliant", a word I hardly ever use:

trying not to listen to the devil as he dares me
tied in knots 'cause looking forward scares me

It does NOT get better that that!! A great song, a soulful delivery......a masterpiece!!! Take care. Greg

Man, if I could write like that I'd have it put on a t-shirt smile

And what a cool alliteration on the hook line. Just drives it home.

The harp was a surprise and sounds like it was played for the tune.

Janice said: I love everything about it and his phrasing is perfect!"

The arrangement with the build is very supportive of the fine melody.

We could go on....and on.

Most excellent mr jane.

Thanks for that great review from both of you!!! (you are welcome to use that on a t-shirt smile )

I love this song, but if I am honest to my taste of music I would have preferred a sax (or maybe nothing) to the harmonica (well, that is just my taste.. I still really like the song).

Happy New Year!
Will

Will - thanks for having a listen. I have used sax in a few song, but for my ear this is more a "harp-kinda song"...

Your conversational lyrics feel effortless - "dares me/scares me" is a nice acceleration into the chorus.

As always, excellent work and a pleasant listen.

That "outstanding" bar is never a problem for you and like the best of the best Olympic high-jumpers, you ALWAYS manage to clear it with plenty of air. I guess that that Old Norse word called "skill" is what it's all about.

Bud mentioned the alliteration in the hook and I agree... those four 'w' sounds on accented beats also caught my ear. That's very clever and very memorable writing!

What I really admire about the line "Wishin' and whiskey to wash away the sin" is that from a rhyming perspective, it is fully self-contained. The short 'i' sounds in "wishin" and "whiskey", along with the "-in" at the end of "wishin" all partner the final word "sin" --- I'm definitely going to look for something as streamlined as this in my next song!

Thanks for continuing to teach me all these nuances about lyric writing smile

All the best for 2020!
Noel

Noel - I always enjoy hearing what you have to say about a song - especially the lyric and the "little bits of craft" that make it happen... Thanks for the nice review...

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
