Long story short, I had problems with 2020UP as soon as I installed it and could not get any answers from PG tech support. In frustration, I contacted sales and told them I wanted to de-activate, cancel the license, request a refund and revert back to 2018UP. De-activated 2020UP successfully but now I'm in a quandary as to what to do to get back to 2018UP. I have all the installation files and license for 2018UP but must I delete 2020UP files before I can get back to normal. Or would I be better off deleting all versions, starting with 2014MP> If so, what about the update files for each?

On the same subject, why would PG release a new version of BIAB/RB at the height of the holiday season, then cut back on tech support knowing that there would be alot of questions and bugs to fix? They've already gone from Build 206 to 209. Does anyone from PG product support read these posts?

Hi John,

I'm not PG Music staff so I can only say what I would do in your circumstances.

Firstly if you still have BIAB version 2020 files on your computer, I imagine that these will need deleting because you have returned the product and, because of this, you will no longer have access to these files.

This is what I'd do in your situation. I am assuming that you installed BIAB onto your computer's internal hard drive.

1. Save any song files that you've created.

2. Make a backup of your current \bb folder and then delete the current installation of BIAB 2020. (If there's enough space, simply rename the \bb directory to \bb.2020 if you want to keep it for the moment.)

3. If the first purchase of BIAB was 2014, install this. Without knowing anything about how you upgraded (i.e. did you use the PlusPak option), I'll have to assume that full installations are required.

4. Now install each new version of BIAB that you purchased until you get back to 2018.

That should do the job.

Chances are that you probably won't need to re-activate the 2018 version. BIAB will let you know if you need to do this, though.

Hope this helps,
Noel

John, I hear it’s pretty cold in Az these day. Anyway I feel your frustration, but 2020 is running solid here. I’m sorry your having problems I’ve been there. PGM always releases around the holidays. And the folks there have families like all of us. I’m not trying to a smart Alec (which begs a question, how did Alec get involved in this) but as frustrating as this stuff can be maybe a little more patience would get you through it. There’s a lot of folks here on the forums that could maybe help you out. Just bringin this up cause I hate to see folks going backwards.

hope you get it fixed.

i have somem issues with band in a box 2020 myself but one tip for anyone else who may have some issues and are tempted to get a refund. for me its mainly about the realtracks and such and the audiophile edition

what you CAN do is have two versions of band in a box at once. im not sure if you can install both on the same hard drive but what i have done is have band in the box ultrapack 2016 on my PC hard drive with all the real tracks

and then the 2020 audiphile of course from the external drive.

as im having some issues with running audio chord wizard and a few other things with the latest version but i can just do that in 2016 then save the project and load it up in 2020.

Just a tip for some people. that might help without needing a refund. as band in the box may not be perfect at times but gotta say am LOVING having the 16 bit full wave files of all the realtracks/realdrums

and apparently many of the artist performance solos too! have the wav file included which is nice to play aroudn with!

Thanks to both of you who replied. I am also a big fan of BIAB but it seems their tech support has gone south. I did not give up easily but have thrown in the towel today after chasing them for an answer since 12/18. I am in the process of doing a clean install from 2014 on. Thanks again.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
