I'm brand new to BIAB so very much still getting to grips with it. So far, its been pretty fantastic but I'm having a few issues with missing real tracks. For example pork Pie Hat Ska Punk is missing all but the drums and bass when I load it. I assume if you have the demo, you should have all the tracks?

Many thanks.

BillyRay,

Greetings. Welcome to the forum and to Band-in-a-Box.

The quick answer is no and your assumption is incorrect. Having a demo does not mean you will have all the instruments used in the demo.

Demo songs are used to showcase instruments, bands (instrument collections) and styles. When a demo is showcasing a band or a style then all the instruments used in the band or style should be present. But if the demo is showcasing an instrument, you may have just the instrument.

Jim,

Thank you for a frank and useful response. I guess its the first time I feel a little disappointed with the software. It seems to be a case of "look what you could have" if you give us a little more cash. Still, its been very useful so far. I'm a songwriter with limited musical ability playing wise, so its already been extremely handy so far. No doubt I will have lots more greenhorn questions in the future.....

Regards,

BillyRay,

I understand your disappointment. I first started with Band-in-a-Box when it was midi only and was disappointed with it enough to quit.

I became interested again after my wife gave me a clearance discounted 2011 ProPAK for Christmas in 2012. RealTracks and RealDrums were the game changers that changed my attitude regarding Band-in-a-Box. The first time I changed a song key signature from "E" to "G" and the regenerated audio transposed, I was hooked. It still amazes me today how easily Band-in-a-Box can accomplish that one feat. It has always been easy to accomplish with midi but getting pre-recorded audio to transpose, that's pure magic.

I stayed with using just the ProPAK for about a year and a half. That gave me time to concentrate on learning everything I could about the capabilities and features of Band-in-a-Box and RealBand without becoming distracted by all the additional content I didn't have.

I like that the Band-in-a-Box and RealBand programs are full featured regardless of which package you purchase. To me it is worth taking the time to understand the program features and capabilities. I also like that the ProPAK includes midi styles, RealTracks, RealDrums, midi SuperTracks and acidized audio loops so you can learn to incorporate all the different types of available content into a song file.

I updated to the UltraPAK on hard drive in 2014 and have maintained that content level ever since. Funny thing is, I still use many of the RealTracks that were included in the 2011 ProPAK. The "Hank" series of acoustic strumming and finger picking just fit most of the songs I enjoy. Go figure!

By the way I'm one of those "takes five minutes to change chords" musician. I play at guitar and piano when I play but truthfully I'd rather listen to Band-in-a-Box play than to listen to anything I play myself.

Hi Jim,

I think as you say, there is a lot to learn and i'm right at the beginning. truth be told it does much more than I need already but it was was a bit of a surprise to find that the 2020 brand new package doesn't necessarily include the tracks that you select as a style. Having said that, i'm traditional country/rockabilly/rock n roll roll so there's plenty. Mind you, for an old school rock n roll beat, iv found a British style that fits it best do far. Go figure :-)

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
