I feel like I need to jump back in on this...

Once again, thanks to all of you for your generous comments.

And again, I want to point out that Noel's writing on this is some of his best I have heard! The melody really got stuck in my head when he sent it to me (and not because it sounded like The First Noel!) smile (I guess we could call this The First Noel Adams.)

Honestly, there are enough diversions to the melody line for there to be no conflict with the Public Domain song, The First Noel. And I think this one has a very compelling, haunting melody line to it.

I have never really thought of what I do as midi production. I always just thought of it as orchestration and arrangement, even though it was using midi. It just occurred to me after reading some of your comments that this is a lot of midi sounds! (I know that seems silly, but true.) Anyway, I am always striving to find a way to keep my arrangements sounding as "real" as possible, and maybe that's why I don't think in terms of midi, as much as in terms of orchestration/arrangements. I am flattered to read your kind comments.

Also, I think Noel did a superb job on the vocals. Don't let the fact that there are 14 plugins on his vocals lead you to think there were any problems with the vocals. All of the plugins are there (each one used sparingly) to bring out the true natural sound of his voice, which digital recording processes can tend to make slightly more sterile and harsh. I only look at the cumulative result, not how many plugins it takes to get there. There was nothing wrong with Noel's voice, or his recording that required a massive amount of plugins to fix. He did a fine job of singing, on pitch, etc. These plugins are designed to help an already good recording fit into the mix, not artificially make him sound better than he did.

This was a lot of fun to work on, because of the good quality of material I had to work with. And Noel, I am honored to work with you any time!

Thanks again to all!

Steve

Wow, apologies first, Noel & Steve, for not having discovered this masterpiece sooner.

'You fill my heart full of wonder, and laughter' Absolutely sensational lyrics.

The entire song is embraced in a precious melody.

This is a keeper, no question.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for taking the time. I appreciate it.

I hope that the fires haven't been too cruel up your way. We sure are a continent that's burning right now. I've never known anything like it.

But when I read about that explosion of MIDI tracks I hardly couldn't believe it: The song comes along so pure and natural that you would never notice the huge amount of tracks and synthesized sounds.

All I can say is, 'Hats off' to both of you: A wonderful song in all respects - like I said: A treat !!!

All the best,

Hi Stefan,

Thank you. I sincerely appreciate your time in listening and writing comments. I felt like you when Steve sent me a list of what he'd done. Just WOW! It's totally beyond my ability to work at his level.

Now if only I could put together videos like you and Maha do!

All the best,
Noel

Well, I would assume that someone with strong special skills would fall in awe of your wonderful and well-coordinated musical cornerstones and sprinkle a certain amount of fairy dust and a magical mist all over them, thus rendering them as rare stones of beauty and comfort. This is truly a magnificent piece so well conceived and delivered,

What a wonderful yet powerful listen Simply Great In All Respects. The message was right on and the music flaunted it to great heights

.

Superbly done and such a sweet capture.

Alan

Thanks for finding the time to visit. It's always good to see you. I agree with you. Steve's orchestration is stunning. Also, thank you for noticing those two lines, it a while to arrive at them.

Hi, Noel & Steve !

With guys like you two it just must become
extraordinary as expected ! Wonderful, simply wonderful !
You Noel, have a recognizable way of singing
something that makes you unique - every song
you sing your voice is immediately recognizable
at least to me ! Can remember Floyd saying that
once about me too - it should be a superb asset
for an artist both professional or amateur !

Congrats to both of you for this superb collaboration
nothing short of a masterpiece !

Cheers

Wow - what a tune smile I honestly wouldn't change a thing here, you guys knocked it out of the park. Super songwriting and extremely pleasant on the ears. The vocals soar and it all flows effortlessly.

I wouldn't bat an eye if I heard this on the radio - thanks for sharing!

Beautiful perfection in every aspect: lyrics, chords, vocals, arrangement. Great collaboration, I admire how you have worked the perfection to every little detail. I really enjoy those lush sounding piano and strings, great work in arranging them.

It has been very interesting read all comments, the story behind those lines - learning about the process how other songwriters think. And how Steve have used all those plug-ins, unbelievable smile

Excellent work with the music box, I wouldn't have patience to build it sound so perfect and beautiful (I have made a lullaby, still have to sing it. It has an interlude that would sound great with a music box, but I haven't find a sound as good as in your song).

I think you should definitely collaborate on least couple of more, to see where it takes you.
Thank you for sharing!

Hi Misha,

It's great to see you. I'm really glad to read that you nearly drifted off into the slumberland while listening. That's quite a compliment! Thank you.

I really enjoy working with Steve. He's an excellent collaborator.

Nice writing, Noel, you are a true master of that craft, and I really like your vocal too.

Great way to start off the year, congrats to both of you!

Hi Dave,

Nice to see you! Thanks for taking time to listen and to comment,

When I read Steve's production notes, I was also blown away. I have never worked to this level of detail. I don't think I have those kind of skills, anyway. It truly is incredible how Steve has used so much to create a cohesive and uncomplicated sounding arrangement that fits the genre perfectly. As with so many things in music (and in Life in general), in the hands of an expert, difficult things look/sound easy.

Appreciate that visit.

Hi there Torrey.

I'm glad you found time for a visit. Thanks for having a listen and writing some thoughts. The production is all Steve. The only track I had anything to do with, apart from the original demo BIAB file and song idea was the vocal track. As you can see from the above, Steve worked with a gazillion other tracks.

Thanks for dropping in.

True that. And this song did too. In spite of--and possibly even because of--occasionally having my face peed on, nothing brings me greater joy than our kiddos.

Great work, Gentlemen.

Thanks again to all of you for all the very kind and generous comments! I'm sorry I have been so slow and infrequent in commenting here. We lost one of our dearest and closest friends for over 30 years 2 weeks ago, and I have been in charge of most of the arrangements for her ceremony, and helping the family. So I have been overwhelmed with all of that.

Noel has been so humble and generous in crediting me with the production of this song. But honestly, to me his writing is the shining light of this song. Every time I read the lyrics, I am struck with how timeless and powerful they are. And he hit a home run with his vocals. With this kind of inspiration, it makes it much easier to produce music. So hats off to Noel!

Thanks again to all of you!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
