I've been using BiaB for a couple of years...now on 2020 Pro. I've never had this issue before and can't find anything in the forums.

I have all 7 tracks in the mixer loaded with intruments/styles. On export to WAV (creating separate tracks for each instrument), three tracks are empty. There is a size value (e.g. 24MB) but length is 00:00:00. They are not muted.

The missing instruments are present in the exported "full mix" render, so they are getting exported with the other instruments collectively but not as individual tracks.

The instruments/tracks play fine in BiaB.

I tried saving/closing/reopening the file but that didn't help. It's always the same three tracks that export empty.

Once I closed the program in early stage of developing the song and when it reopened and I tried to play the song, but got a message that the bass guitar track had no data and had to be regenerated. This is one of the tracks that's not exporting now, but plays fine in the BiaB interface.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Marc

I opened the song file on a 2nd computer running BiaB 2019 Pro and exports are successful. All tracks exported successfully. Guess I'll open a problem ticket.

Hi Marc,

Have you installed the latest update? They are found at the below link.

https://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm

We're up to build #709. To check the build that you have, look under "Help | About Band in a box" The build will be in brackets after the version year.

Also, when BIAB starts doing things that it doesn't usually do, I reach for "Return to factory settings" found under the "Options" menu. Try the "MOST" option.

Regards,
Noel

Thanks Noel69. Yes I'm on build 709.

I tried "Return to factory settings" - MOST and I noticed it reset the default bit depth on Export to 16.

I had changed it to 24 for a previous project and apparently these instuments that didn't export were not compatible with 24 bit depth?

Exporting to 16 bit depth worked. Thank you very much!

Thanks passing the information on, Marc. I wasn't aware of this behaviour.

I'm glad you're up and running again. For what it's worth (just in case you are not aware of this), BIAB Realtracks are 16 bit, 44.1 (i.e. 16/44.1) kHz.

I write the below in case anyone who reads this thread might like my take on bit-rate and frequency sampling rate.

If Realtracks are what is being exporting as 24-bit, I doubt that there is much to gain in the early part of creating a production should these tracks be being sent to a DAW to work on. The reason that I say this is because every time the bit-rate or frequency-rate is changed, dithering is involved and this can lead to degradation of sound.

I have found that it's better to leave dithering for the final stage so that it's only done once. This reduces the potential for audio artifacts to be created. Thus in Reaper, my DAW, I have tracks at 16/44.1 from BIAB, recorded tracks at 24/48 (and often tracks at other bit- and frequency-rates). These various tracks all get dithered and noise-shaped in the final render to a single WAV file. Reaper does that well.

Regards,
Noel

Same here. Everything is up to date with 2020. Last night was the most current time it happened.

It doesn't seem to do it if I save my work first.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
