Some of you may remember Ray Thigpen, who participated on the PGMusic forums over a decade ago. I was reviewing some of my YouTube videos and came across this one he sent me about Fall in the North Georgia area (close to my heart, as I went to college in Dahlonega, GA) from 2006. Ray had since died from cancer, but his memory lives on in the CD he made (some of the members here contributed to it, including myself), and in remembrance of one of our own how has gone before us, I share his video again:

Ray was a fantastic individual. We spoke many times on the phone and I played on a few of his songs. It is nice to see that others miss him also.

I remember Rays posts on the forum well, a lovely guy and very helpful to everyone on the forum, did a few PDF's on mastering with Realband as well.

I think he would be happy that his good advice is still helping us out.

Went too early as he said himself, he was a heavy smoker for many decades but fought it to the end.

Thanks for brining up his memory again John. I think its always good to remember them on the forum, Ray, John Conley, Howard, Sam (Wiensam) youtube page https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClQIC3RvfLFXvlWelPjt2zw, and Edward Buckley.

We have lost a number of the group over the past 20 years. I think wiensam left the biggest impression on me. He was such a colorful character that I was able to get to know through his web presences and his forum communications. It is good to remember these folks at times.

I also wish I knew about Mac (Clark MacDonald). I had a phone number for him, but when I tried to call, I could not connect. I know he went through a bout of health issues. I hope he is still doing well.

Without intending to highjack Ray's thread, but remembering others, I was always amused at the lighthearted fun that John Conley brought to the forum. He was very witty.

Life is so fragile. We've lost quite a really nice people who were kind, generous and helpful to others. It's sad to see them gone, but nice to see that they are remembered by more people than just me.

Thanks for the memories.

Also lets not forget Ian Fraser. I did a lot of work with him. He was another very likeable individual.

I miss them all.

Mario, I don't remember Ian, but another person who disappeared from the PG forums is Russ Stanton (Russel-the-muscle). He and I played music together for a couple of years. Quite a few fond memories......

Russ posted as recently as this past November. If I recall correctly, his interest in radio controlled planes surpassed his interest in BIAB.

thanks for the brief tribute to forum contributors who are now gone. I remember each of them and appreciate them uniquely.

And for that matter.. now might be a good time to say that I appreciate those of you who are still alive and STILL adding value to the lives of everybody here in the PGMusic forum. I think its safe to say that all of the core users here have taught me multiple things through the years... and not just about BIAB. I'm happy to have met several of you. Traveling to shake the hand of a friend is time well spent in my opinion.

Yes, Russ and London guitar phenom Alan Simm both got the R/C modeling bug about the same time. Both gentlemen are quite ill but Alan managed to send me a fabulous track. He seldom plays anymore which is a tragedy.

I will share my collaborative effort with Alan below. He's playing his custom shop Strat, his pride and joy.

Obviously, it was recorded before my stroke. It's a dreaded cover.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
