Hi all this is my first for the year.
I have used one of the 2020 BB new styles - A fast campfire waltz trio.
When writing I was thinking about the late 1800 early 1900.
All comments welcome. Rob4580

Good Company

Oh come sweet maiden please dance with me.
I'm sure you will find I'm good company.
We'll sweep through the meadow and down to the sea.
I'm sure you can tell I'm good company.

I'll give you a penny I'll you a crown.
Don't lose your breath as I spin you around.
We can eat cake and then drink some tea.
I'm sure having fun in your company.

Bridge

I'll give you a penny I'll give you a crown.
Don't lose your breath as I spin you around.
We can eat cake and then drink some tea.
I get so much joy in your good company.

Now the sunlight is fading its go home.
Remember this day and your face as it glowed.
I pray you'll remember that you dancing with me.
Then tell them about your good company.

Rob,

Nicely done.

The vocal seems to be behind the acoustic guitars - very slightly - but enough to have my ear go to the guitars too often and have to re-adjust back to the vocal (if that makes sense).

A good jaunty tune.

Hi Rob,

You also made a waltz just as I did. Though your waltz is so much lighter than mine. At least in the lyrics...
I found it a nice catchy song with a nice bridge in it where the fiddle did a good job!

Nice one Bob.
The right guitar does dominate a bit - its solid and strong.
Lift you vocal slightly and she'll be sweet.
Well done.

Great waltz or maybe a jig...
I think your vocal & that fiddle carry the melody very well...
It does sound like a throw back to songs in the late 1800s early 1900s...
I enjoyed it!

I hope you & yours had a Merry Christmas in spite of all the trauma in your vicinity.

Nice tune nicely sung, definitely sounds like the time period you mentioned. You've got a distinctive voice, that's a great thing to have in this new world of music where so many people have their music online. It sets you apart in a good way.

Well done! The period is definitely captured with
the lyric and the fiddle.

And as always your vocal performance is excellent.

Nice photo also!

Hi Bob,

Very entertaining.

We don't get oldtime waltzes very often on the forum and it's always a pleasure to listen to them. And when the song comes from your pen, I know that I'm going to be in for a treat. I enjoyed this a lot.

All the best,
Noel

Really like the fiddle!

I agree with Floyd, the vocal is slightly overshadowed by the acoustic guitar. I would lower the guitar ever so slightly. Also (in my opinion), your vocal is just a tad over-compressed to fit the mood of this song. Again, it's just my opinion, and others may well disagree. But I would back off the compression just a bit, so your voice maintains a more "natural" sound. Then, you can bring up your lead vocals a bit in the mix. Also, I would generally recommend putting your compression before your other effects, with one compressor at the end of your vocal chain to very lightly help the vocal "fit" into the overall mix. Just a matter of taste. I use a LOT of compressors in my mixes, but I use them very subtly. I may have 3 or 4 compressors on my vocal track, but primarily to get the "character" of the compressor without the pumping or otherwise over-compressed symptoms. Of course, in Pop styles, compression is used much more noticeably. But this song is more "down-home".

Again, it's just a matter of taste. I really did enjoy this song!

So sorry for rambling so much!

Hope you are well, and we are praying for Australia!

Steve

You really captured that era in this song. Great job.

I agree with the others about the mix. This song is a diamond that just needs a little polish. It is good as it is but it could be great with a couple of small changes like lowering the guitar volume and bringing up the vocal.

Still this is a very good song.

Hi Rob,

2020 seems to become the 'Waltz Year' here on the forum. And as long as they are as good as this one (and Hans' 'This Night') this is perfect for me.

When I hear your voice I always have the feeling I'm in good company anyway, so I really enjoyed this tune very much, too.

Take care,

Stefan

I agree with the other comments about the mix and balance of sounds, and that it would just be a slight tweak. With that said, there's so much to like about this song, those are minor. The vocals are excellent and one thing that stands out is that they are always interesting. You do a great job of injecting flair and emphasis at key points, in an interplay with the instruments and rhythm, and it's never overdone. I also agree that you really captured the feel of the style and it has almost a jig feel to it.

An excellent song and performance - really enjoyable.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
