Hi all,

Here's a song I originally posted back in 2011 and had some great responses. However, the consensus was that I used too much reverb - and I did in those days, and the mix was maybe a little flat.

I think I've learned a lot, especially from you guys here, so let me know what you think.

I never listened to the original since I wasn't on the forums back then, but I thoroughly enjoyed this! Definitely wouldn't describe it as too heavy on the reverb so I'd say you succeeded. It flows really well and is nicely catchy too. I thought the mix was top notch also.

Thanks for sharing smile

Cheers,

Hello ...

Good to "meet" you. I believe this is my first time to listen to ... been away from the forum for several months due to wife's very serious medical issues. Good to be back.

I enjoyed this very much. The mix is crisp and very pleasant to listen to. I also like the fact you let the drums drive the rhythm by putting them a little more up front than most folks do. Nice lyric and musical construction. Your vocal is very strong.

I enjoyed my listen very much. Wishing you the best ...

Alan

Martin,

That melody gets stuck in one's head by the end of the song (and especially after a couple of listens).

The overall mix is balanced. Good drums level.

A couple of notes - along the "let me know..." trail....
The vocal has some "harshness" to it because of the amount of reverb (it accentuates the high end). Rolling off some of the high EQ would soften that up.
The picked acoustic get pretty repetitive by the end of the song - due partially to its level in the mix (fairly loud for an acoustic) and because it never gets changed up for anything else. You might consider letting the strum guitar have a larger role. Just some ideas...

Nice song,
To me, this has an old familiar feel/sound to it.
It's like and oldie from years ago that I listened to on my little AM radio.

It'd be a good idea to edit that bit of noise at the very beginning.
As mentioned - there's some stridency to the vocal due to processing and EQing can ease that quickly enough.
The kick drum is a bit too clicky for the song style (it seems to be the BIAB default these days) and some careful EQ of the RealDrums can fix that.
Good song.

Cheers

Since you already got excellent mix advice, I can settle back and enjoy the song. wink

As others have said, it's got that "Catchy, have I heard this before?" sound, without actually sounding like something I've actually heard before.

And that is an impressive feat.

Glad you brought this back for another round! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

I really like this song Martin.

I did a search for your 2011 version...
But I guess you've replaced it with this one.

Your plaintive vocal really makes the lyrics of this song shine...

Keep then coming...
I enjoy hearing your creativity!

Martin,
I especially enjoyed your vocal performance on this( sure the processing could be tweaked- but you sing well!).The melody suits the lyrics (please post them).
A good country hurting-but-not-showing-it song!

Well performed indeed!

And the melody is assuredly one that sticks with you
(just another way of saying catchy, I suppose smile )

We joined in late 2011 and likely missed the original
so thanks for the revival!

Enjoyed it.

Hi Martin,

This is really pleasant listening.

I listened using headphones. Your performance is top notch and your choice of groove and choice of instruments are a perfect fit for creating the ambience that these lyrics and melody need.

As I listened, nothing sprang out at me and said "this needs attention".

The sincerity and honesty in your vocals make for very engaging listening.

All the best,
Noel

Hi Floyd,
Sorry my response is so late, I've been away.

Thanks for the listen. A memorable tune is always a good sign. smile

Thanks for the advice too. I did a remix and took some of the high end out and it does sound better. It also sits the acoustic back a little.

Thanks again.

Martin

Hi Greg,

Sorry my response is so late, I've been away.

I have no idea why that should be. I've been posting my songs on Soundclick for about ten years and no one has ever mentioned a problem.

You're browser I guess.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
