I recommend going to Groove3 (Groove3.com), pay USD$15 for one months subscription. On Groove 3 you can look at the training for most DAWs and top of the line Plugins. These are unbiased training videos that clearly demonstrate how to use most of the DAWs mentioned above. (One notable exception is RB off memory). Groove3 also have training on various aspects of music production including methods of creating, recording, mixing, mastering to distribution of music. It is all in one place where the various tools are represented without bias.

In a month you’ll touch the surface of what you want to learn. I went on for a month over 12 months ago and am now signed up for a long time yet and still finding new stuff. Had I gone to Groove3 years back I would have saved a small fortune.

Bob, Audition V1.5 (also V3) are both 32 bit apps. But they run fine on a 64 bit Win 10 machine, that’s what I’m running here.

I’ve been running V1.5 since 2004, bought it when it first came out, they had a special upgrade price offer at the time for people previously running Cool Edit. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve upgraded my computers since 2004, and Windows versions too obviously, but each time I get a new machine I reinstall Audition 1.5 and 3.0 on it, never had a problem.

Dave is correct. I use Adobe Audition 1.5 daily on Windows 10.

There's no way in the world you could do something like that on a Mac, every time there is an update something don't work anymore, and now they have banned users from using 32 bit apps.
LOL, my sister is always telling how much she loves Apple, she came to me the other day and said 'I updated and now so many of my apps don't work anymore, what's wrong ?? '.

About Audition 1.5 I vaguely remember having this same conversation years ago. The version I had was earlier than that and it would not run and I asked where I could get 1.5 and it's not available any more. I just checked again and the only Audition available is the newest one at $31 per month or $240 per year as a subscription. That's a lot of ongoing money for my casual use. My original point to the OP I think is correct, if he's running Cool Edit then he must have an older 32 bit machine.

Does anyone know if Cool Edit will run in the Win 10 compatibility mode?

I ask as I have an old Win 95 photographic program and Windows Office 97 running perfectly in Win 10 using the compatibility function.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Hi all

So I've got a few DAWs on the go that I am trying out (Cakewalk, Cubase, Ableton) but a common problem I'm having with all of them is that whenever they're running they completely hog my computer's audio, meaning I cannot listen to anything else. This is a bit of an issue when trying to learn how to use them since nearly all the tutorials are videos.

Does anyone know how I can get around this?

Many thanks

Mike

It sounds like you are using ASIO drivers. Most all ASIO drivers can only do one program at a time so if your DAW is on ASIO then nothing else will sound. Temporary change either your DAW or your video program to MME, WDM, or WAS drivers. I would change the DAW to WAS, listen then close the video and put the DAW back in ASIO.

I hope this helps.

PS - I run BiaB in MME and my DAW in ASIO as this way both can be active at the same time.

or ASIO VoiceMeeter ASIO or Voicemeeter ASIO AUX
set the hardware output to your hardware audio device/s

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
