I'm running RealBand 2020 on the USB Hard drive and when I go to render a wav or wma file it seems to take forever....
What's up with that?

How long (in minutes or seconds) does forever mean? How many tracks in the file you're rendering? How long is the song? Are you saving to the external drive or internal? Have you tried running Realband from your C: drive?
Give us some info to work with.
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

rharv,
How long (in minutes or seconds) does forever mean?.....Before 2020 it used to take seconds....now it's taking about 20 minutes
How many tracks in the file you're rendering?.....anywhere from 4 to 16 tracks and never had this problem before
How long is the song?....were talking 2 to 4 minutes long
Are you saving to the external drive or internal? I'm saving to the F:\BIAB\RealBAnd 2020 USB Hard Drive
Have you tried running Realband from your C: drive? Don't want to....in case my computer crashes I don't want to loose all of my songs...I've had that happen before and I'm NOT going through that again.

rharv,
I'm in the process of doing a final mix of about 16 songs so I can release an album and this new version of RealBand 2020 is giving me a giant headache. very unstable and crashes a lot and I guess running it from the USB Hard Drive is really slowing things down....
I'M NOT HAPPY

In response to your concern about running RB from the C: drive .. you can run the program there, but Save the work to any drive you want. I'm just talking about running the application on C: (the part that does the work).
You can still save to whatever drive you want (though an external USB will usually be slower). And it will be even slower if it being used to run both the application AND be the drive it is writing to when it saves. Two different processes taxing a USB drive..
Let's say you run RB from C:, and Save files to F: .. if C: dies you haven't lost anything.
It's just a suggestion and trying to help .. again, I don't work here, most of us forum members do not work here. Yelling that you're not happy, in a post directed to me, made me want to clarify. Not sure what you expect me to do personally.
/Have you tried the Live Help Chat option at top? //Maybe you'll get lucky and someone from PGMusic can take a look and help.

rharv,
I'm sorry....I wasn't yelling at you.....I was yelling at PGMusic in general.
your advise seems to have merit....although PGMusic advertising boasting to run BIAB and RB from the USB Hard Drive while having plenty of storage on the USB Hard Drive to store all of your music seems false in my eye if it has these kind of results.
I probably will run RB from my C: drive if it fixes my issues....but I really think that PG Music needs to develop RB more than BIAB.
At the very least separate the two so that developers can really put some serious programming efforts into it. It's a much better product than BIAB for serious Musicians that need the Realtracks and Drumtracks and all of the audio tracks that BIAB is limited in.
I buy BIAB because of RealBand and I never use BIAB...I have no need for it and it frustrates me that RB doesn't have the same support that BIAB has.
OK....I'm done with my Raging Rant and am sorry to anyone that I've offended.

/Have you tried the Live Help Chat option at top? //Maybe you'll get lucky and someone from PGMusic can take a look and help. Note: any drive can fail not only C Drives. In most cases the C Drive is the best place to keep System and Programs. In the case of BB and RB I set them up on the C Drive and the RealTracks, RealDrums (G drive) and my song files and renders on (L) different drives. I do this to make backups etc easier and also different needs on different drives. I do similar with a number of resource heavy VSTis (some have many gigs of data that I don’t want filling my C Drive which is only a 512 SSD). Tony

Before 2020 it used to take seconds....now it's taking about 20 minutes Rendering definitely shouldn't take 20 minutes. I agree, you should test this on your C: drive, and unplug the USB drive - maybe there is a problem with it, loose connection, power supply issue, or whatever. Just copy the RealBand folder to your C: drive and run the program from there. Start with a file that others have, like a Band-in-a-Box demo song, or one of the files from the RealBand sample folder, and test how long rendering takes.

I Moved everything over to my C:\ drive on my computer and it seems to be working fine now....I guess it didn't like working from my F:\drive.
Anyway....I finally got all of my songs finished and will soon be coming out with my album on March 1st, 2020 distributed through TuneCore.
The songs are available on soundcloud if you want to listen....

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
