Had this 2014 version and only just started to use it.
Can't get Melody to record Midi from keyboard, or register an instrument.
I am sure it did it yesterday but not working now.
Any ideas anyone?

HI
First make sure you have your keyboard selected as a midi input.
Your keyboard needs to be up and running when you start BIAB for it to be able to find it.
Recoding is done by playing the notes on the thru channel the voice selected hear will be what you hear while recording
Just press the record button and play, when you have done press stop it will ask if to keep the take, say yes if you are happy.
The notes you recorded now appear on the melody track, if you press play you will hear your recording.
IMORTANT
The voice you hear from the melody track will depend on the voice set on the melody track. So chose the same voice as you did on the thru track, if you want it to sound the same.
Many folks just use the default piano on the thru track, and then chose their playback voice after. That’s fine, personally if I am recording a trumpet I like to hear a trumpet while recording to get the articulation right. Hence the above.

Hello and thanks for your reply. As I am new at this I probably didn't explain the nature of the problem very well. I had successfully recorded melody from keyboard. It played back OK with selected melody instrument. Decided to re-record so deleted midi data for that track. Now there is no instrument showing for track and when I try to select one my selection is ignored - I cannot get a new instrument set for melody. What am I doing wrong?

HI
You can not select a voice for the melody track until you have recorded some notes ,via the thru track.
Once you have done this the melody track will default to piano, now you can change it.
If you delete the midi notes data on the melody track the track returns to the start up state with no instrument selected. So you must record some more notes.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
