I'm a new user so I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions - can't seem to get the tech support people to answer a phone call, but there you go.

I can build a song in the BB program, but I can't seem to load that song in the Logic plugin when I open my Logic DAW. It seems the only files that I can choose from in the Logic plugin and files generated inside that plugin. The plugin won't read the files from my UltraPak BB hard drive. Is there a way to move a completed song from the BB external hard drive into the Logic plugin?

Ed.

Hello Ed,

When you say it won't read your files, what exactly is happening? Do you not see the files when you go to File - Open? You should be able to load in Band-in-a-Box song files into the Band-in-a-Box DAW plugin. Do you have version 1.16.29 of the plugin? (check by going to File - Prefs - About).

Yessir - I've got that version. Ok, here's what I'm doing - and mind you, I'm a new user so this may be frustrating for you -

I write a song in BB UltraPak 2019 for Mac the version with the external hard drive. I hit "save" and name it and all that. So I think it's going to be there forever. I don't close BB, I just minimize it down to the dock, so it's still running.

Then I open Logic and pull up the BB DAW plugin. When I go to "file-open" or "open recent" in the plugin, the song that I just made in the external hard drive is not listed. The plugin doesn't have it.

Last night I just started over and entered all the song info using the plugin window that pops up in logic. It's a pain because the window is so small (I can expand the chord chart, but not the plugin window itself) and the plugin doesn't seem to have all the features that I find in the regular BB hard drive. They may be there, but hidden somewhere, but I'm not seeing the tool bars that I have in the external drive version. Now that I've entered all the info into the plugin, it DOES show up in the "open file" option.

I'd like to be able to at work with something in the plugin that I created in BB outside of the plugin without having to start from scratch inside the plugin and recreate the song again. Does the plugin not share files with the BB external hard drive?

Ed.

The win version had a similar issue but was fixed with an update.
You can try it in MiniHost or if you have JBridge try it in PliginFlipFlop, both of these you just load them then load the Biab Plugin into them.

I have the feeling that you are just looking in a different location than you saved the file. The Open/Save dialog is just the standard Mac dialog that lets you open and save a file from any location on your computer, and both the plugin and full application can see .SGU and .MGU files (Band-in-a-Box songs).

I suggest that in the full Band-in-a-Box program, when you save your file, save it on your Desktop even if just for testing purposes, and that way there is no confusion as to where the file is. The file will normally be saved as a .SGU or .MGU file, and you should see it on your desktop.

Thanks -

Let me keep playing around with it. I'll figure it out.

Thanks for the reply.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
