Tilt-recline wheelchairs are factory special order so I won't have it for three weeks.

It will have all the latest technology built-in so I can access my desktop and BIAB from my wheelchair.

Whatever criticisms you may have heard against the VA are not true and, in fact, they played Joanne and my album over the PA when they learned that I was there. They always treat me like royalty whenever I'm there. They even sent a doctor to my nursing home on one occasion. That doctor plays native-American flute and I promoted BIAB to him.

If you'd like to hear Dr. play some beautiful Native-American flute then I'll get his permission and post some along with his website.

It's a very soothing, relaxing music.

Just nod your head if interested.

Matt,

My disability is not even service-connected but they rolled out the red carpet saying that CVAs (strokes) can be a result of Agent Orange exposure even though I was never "In Country." I may have been exposed second-hand while liberating German guesthouses and Danny Campo was liberating Biloxi, Mississippi. lol

Anyway, I won't have to pay a farthing.

John,

The technical advancements in 10 years since I got this original chair are simply unbelievable even to this old technician.

I'll post a picture later.

Hey good buddy, I'll bet that you wanted that latest and greatest wheelchair so you could go faster when you are chasing the nurses around whistle grin

I'm really glad that the VA is doing you good. You deserve it!

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Definitely in the plan, Rockstar.

It is being built upon the Quantum 6000 chassis(qv) plus enhancements like a mount for my Dynavox Speech Synthesis Device and WIFI and Bluetooth capability. I was shown the complete catalog and there is one model above the 6000 but I am already familiar with the 6000 wheelchair functioning.

Color me elated ( but please try to stay within the lines. )

Really happy for you, Donny!

I've been thrilled the last few years with the VA. I've had a service-connected disability since '72. My surgery (in '74) at the VA hospital in Madison, WI was done by the guy who invented the procedure. Very lucky in that sense.

I did have some early issues with Hines VA in Chicago and the Phoenix VA, but once I found a CBOC (Community-Based Outpatient Clinic) in northern Phoenix (Anthem) that was associated with the Northern VA in Prescott, service got way better.

Now that I live in Flagstaff, things have gotten super-good.

My doc at the CBOC in Flag is excellent. Since the VA hospital in Prescott is 90+ minutes away, the VA has been authorizing local docs to do what needs doing.

The VA has been paying 100% of my chiropractic and acupuncture treatments recently. That's saved me a ton of money.

Plus, I just switched from regular Medicare+Medigap to the Humana Honor PPO that was designed primarily for vets who get their primary care through the VA. That's saving me another $250/month! Nice.

After being uninsured for 3 years (post work and divorce) and having to pay cash to treat a herniated L3-L4 disk, I have ZERO complaints re my current relationship with the VA.

So happy they're taking care of you.

P.S.: The VA is also taking care of I guy I met down in Cottonwood. He was in his late '80s. He was an engineering mate on one of the Navy's ships that were part of the nuclear tests in the Pacific. He's one of the few remaining alive. The only reason was the bows of the ships were pointed at the island to be blown to bits, and he was aft, down in the engine compartment. Less radiation. But still enough for him to have had most/all of his joints replaced with metal prosthetics. The VA has been paying 100% for his care since WWII, but refuses to grant him a disability rating higher than his current 0%. Disgraceful.

Maartian,

The only complaint I'm hearing is slowness in getting appointments until I realized how long the VA doctors devote to each patient. It's no longer a squirt-though procedure. You feel completely satisfied with the time that the doctor spends with you.

My male nurse, Mike, was a First Seargent in Nam and treats me like royalty.

I composed a BIAB Blues tune for him that he has played over the PA during each visit.

I'll post it here.

Congratulations on the new chair Donny.

And it seems the VA takes good care of it's residents here in Florida as well.

Every year or two (depending on our schedule) Leilani and I volunteer to play for the vets in the wheelchair division of the VA Nursing home about 50 miles away.

We do a free concert for a couple of hours and afterwards sit down and visit with the residents. They often tell us that they are well taken care of there, and it looks that way as well.

I was rejected when I was 18 and tried to join for health reasons, and this is my small way of serving.

Back on topic, I do hope you love your new chair. Send a picture and let us know how quickly it goes from zero to sixty. wink

Peter,

Thank you ( or Canadian equivalent, eh ) for your positive thoughts.

I can't say enough about VA's treatment of me and the wonderful things I continue to hear.

Your encouragement means so much to me.

Bob,

Fellow BIABer, Danny Campo and his lovely wife Linda have visited me and entertained we fossils five times and even brought Marti Gras gifts for the residents. They drive about 800 miles from NOLA each time.

The residents fell in love with them both and constantly ask when they'll be back.

Joanne Cooper has the distance record by coming 12000 miles to visit me and entertain for free. Joanne and her sis, Megz, gave me a private performance out in the gazebo, my favorite spot on the planet.

Donny,

It's great that people have come so far to visit you. And why not? You are a likeable guy.

Don't hold your breath waiting for me to arrive, I've got gigging contracts ahead for over a year and the distance is too great. wink

Keep happy and posting here, you are one of the many bright lights here.

Bob,

Considering that my light continues to dim, I will accept that as a sincere compliment. This forum is where I come to get my battery charged. I love and thank every one of you.

We seem to enjoy 'symmetry' where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. I am thrilled to be a little cog in that wheel.

That's great Donny, I too get great service from the West LA VA. It's across the freeway from the UCLA Medical Center and pretty much all the docs in the various clinics are all wearing UCLA badges. A lot of them are very cute young girls too. Well, girls to me haha they're mostly late 20's and yes everybody there treats all the vets like royalty. I see some guys in those high tech chairs and will talk to them about it if I get the chance while waiting for my appointment or labs or whatever.

I won't bore you with details but I've had two fairly serious things happen and one was with my eyes and the other was a gastro thing. In both cases the doctors were the department heads and they wanted things done a certain way and knew how to throw their weight around. One dept head is a retired bird colonel who was reviewing my file and wanted my procedure to be done in the VA's O.R. and not at a local clinic that I had been scheduled at. I knew nothing about it until I was called into his office where he said there was the possibility of complications and the clinic wouldn't be able to handle it so he intervened and got me rescheduled at the main hospital. He also told me about his staff who he had hand picked, he said they were the best and wanted them to handle me. Pretty cool I thought. Everything went fine with no issues.

The only thing that bothers me about the VA is when I found out the younger vets from the post 9/11 era are not getting lifetime benefits like we get. It's basically 5 years and they're done with some exceptions. That sucks but that's what Congress did years ago.

Bob,

I recall some of your health issues and feel so sorry for you.

I think that they are pursuing the second-hand Agent Orange theory with me but I think it is a red herring. I deserved a stroke when considering my weight and lifestyle.

Best wishes, my friend.

Much like Edison, I often announce my successes way ahead of time as a self-motivator.

Edison said: "Progress?, PROGRESS? Yes, we now know thousands of things that won't work!"

Imagine please, a badly bent old Irishman composing in BIAB from his supercharged wheelchair. Hold that thought. Stay tuned, old pal.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
