Since I installed the latest BIAB Version 2020 (713), currently running the 32 bit version, when I boot up, I get this message: "Windows Audio Session error: Input and output sample rates must match. Audio input (recording) will be disabled. The error number is -9997."

I also now have a lag between the wav file I create of a BIAB file and my own voice that I record when I use Audacity to do so.

In hundreds of times doing this in Audacity with this computer I've never had this problem until installing BIAB 2020.

My system:

Hi Jim,

You don't mention what your previous version of BIAB was. If it was a couple of versions ago, It's possible that BIAB was running the MME audio driver.

As a test...

1. Please start BIAB

2. Go to "Audio | Audio Drivers/Settings"

3. Select MME as your audio driver -- it's under the dropdown box called "Audio driver type".

4. Exit back to BIAB

5. Restart BIAB

The WAS error will not appear, now.

Now check to see if Audacity works better. I'm guessing that the BIAB error you mention may have impacted on Audacity if BIAB was open at the time you ran Audacity. This doesn't usually happen but, with computers, I've learnt that they work in mysterious ways smile

If you don't do any recording in BIAB, using MME as the audio driver is fine. It's just that it has a huge lag that becomes noticeable when recording audio or MIDI, or playing a MIDI instrument through BIAB.

I always set my driver to MME.

Lastly, it's possible that the problem you are having with Audacity is due to Audacity's settings. That's the next issue though. Try the above first.

Regards,
Noel

Now we getting closer, I think. Noel, this might be related to my issue too. I also get these "Session error" thing.

I sent my crash log to PG couple of days ago. Actually 3 crash logs. Two from BIAB console and one by email. So far, I have not heard back.

I do suspect it is related to how BIAB handles audio drivers. I will save this post to my watchlist and if my problem relates to this, I will post back...when I receive an answer.

That did the trick. Many thanks!!

I will now go to Audacity and see if I can fix that.

Windows Audio Session error: Input and output sample rates must match. Audio input (recording) will be disabled. The error number is -9997.

This error happens for two reasons - either it's exactly as described and your sound input is set to a different sample rate than output, or there is no audio input device. Often the first case happens when using a Bluetooth speaker or headphones, since the microphone on most of them usually uses a very low sample rate (8-16khz) while the output is usually 44.1 or 48khz. To avoid this when using a Bluetooth device, you need to select something else as the audio input device.

To avoid this error with your regular sound card, you need to set the sample rate properly. Try this:

Right click on the Windows Start menu and choose Run, then enter "control mmsys.cpl sounds" and press OK. This will open up the Windows Sound control panel.

Under the Playback tab, choose your default audio device (with the Green checkmark), then click on Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and choose 16-bit 44100 Hz (CD Quality) and click OK. If there is only the option of 24-bit 44100 Hz (Studio Quality), choose that instead. While we're here, uncheck the option to "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device".

Next, do the same on the Recording tab with the device that has the Green checkbox. Click Properties, go to the Advanced tab, and choose 16-bit 44100 Hz (CD Quality) and click OK. If there is only the option of 24-bit 44100 Hz (Studio Quality), choose that instead. While we're here, uncheck the option to "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device".

Once that is done, click OK on the Sound window, then go back to Band-in-a-Box and make sure it is working.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
