There are just so many Virtual Instruments that will follow a MIDI Chord Track. Rather than having to route midi with MiniHost or saving the BB Chord Output track then importing can you find some way to have an option the send midi chords to the Virtual Instrument track the same way it sends them to an external device.
Some external music hardware devices require chords played in root position to drive them in real time.
An example of this is the Digitech Vocalist, which lets you sing into a microphone and harmonize your voice according to the chords that are input to the device. Band-in-a-Box has the capability of outputting a separate channel with the chords in root position to support such external devices automatically.
Set your Vocalist to Vocoder (set to transpose up 1 octave) or Chordal mode for best results.
There are also settings such as complexity of chords, output channel, velocity, and note range. This feature will also work with "Real-Time Arrangers" like the Roland RA series.
The best way to use this feature is to go to the Preferences dialog (Options | Preferences) and access the Output Chords on Channel dialog with the [OutputCh.] button.
If you have issues with the above you can use this method Import BB Chord Output Track and instead of a Virtual Instrument load the MidiOut.dll below and set it to VoiceLive 3
Forever Grateful, BUT, sometimes pissed of. Trygve "Leo" Larsen BiaB 2020, Windows 8.1, Intel Core i5 CPU, 270GHz, 32 Gb RAM My OLD tracks on Soundcloud; https://soundcloud.com/trygve-larsen My NEW is unpublished The Universe = Uni-verse ie one song.
P.S. Also rendering that Virtual Instrument to WAV, where chord track is sent to, from BIAB would be useful.
Example: BIAB with "chord track"+Virtual Instrument > when rendering audio have an option to "render chord track instruments" ...assuming you are using those V.instruments inside of BIAB as VST's, such as Guitar Strummer or similar.
Saving BB Chord Output track works, but this workflow would be much better.
What would be the difference in a virtual instrument (use an acoustic piano for example) receiving a midi chord track instead of chord notes as is the present method?
Both ways are polyphonic but midi notes are standard while midi chords are not part of the midi standard and are not a midi extension.
It's just held chord notes for the duration of the chord. If Biab could just insert the chord notes into the track this would work for virtual instruments like UJAM below. See example in Reaper below.
Here's another that will run from the chord track. Just not sure what the S M buttons in the Plugin on the tracks are for ???? It has a piano sound but you can turn that off and it will send to the next instrument in the chain..OH that's right you can't chain VSTi in BB so you need to use MiniHost.
