Brad,

Skoon66,

First off, welcome to the BIAB forum—it’s great to have you on board. I didn’t hear the original version, but the remix sounds pretty good. Would love to see the lyrics to this one, only because there some good lines in there. I had to laugh at playing baseball with a “ball made for tennis”. Brings back memories!

The production has a couple of spots I think you can tighten up—really just balancing the instrumentals with the vocals. For example, in the beginning when the electric guitar comes in, for me, just a tad too abrupt . . . and the vocals in the chorus, particularly in the second chorus, just a touch too forward in the mix. It’s the hardest part for me in any song I do—and drives me totally batty, and I never think I ever quite get it right . . . and to boot, it’s subjective . . . so go with what you think works in the end. Just a couple of thoughts.

You’ve got a good song here. Keep polishing.

Again, welcome to BIAB. I’ll look forward to hearing more from you.

Kind regards,

Deej

Thank you, and you're right mixing is hard for me, sometimes.

And here you go.

"Halfway There"

1:) The first ten, was outside and playing,
model cars, friends, and going swimming,
Cardinal ball games, with my dad.
The next ten, was guitars, and ladies,
Playing Baseball, with a ball made for Tennis,
standing under the street light, with my friends.

C:) Life was great, couldn't wait till I got older,
to do the things, to be cool, just like my brother,
little things, that made sense back then.
Growing up to be just like my father,
getting there, seemed like such a bother,
don't look now, I'm almost halfway there.

(Guitar)

2:) The next ten, was changing what had started,
Desert Storm, changed my life more than I wanted,
I made it home, to see my friends again.
The next ten, I settled down and I got married,
had a boy, that the wife and I cherished,
I think I know now, what my father had meant.

3:) The next ten, was about love, and making money,
time with family was a joy and sometimes crushing,
don't see my friends, like I used to do.
The next ten, not sure just how it's going,
getting older, and wishing I was younger,
I'll see my father, when I'm called up there.

(Chorus-Guitar-2nd Chorus)

C:) Life is tough, and I wish that I was younger,
to do the things, that I could do over,
little things, that made sense back then.
I grew up to be just like my father,
getting there, just like all the others,
all along, I was more then halfway there.

End:) all along I'm almost there.

Really liked both songs on your SoundCloud, Brad. This one is really wonderful hearing about your life. I'm quite new here also, but these folks are a terrific help. Keep 'em coming.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Welcome to the creative world of the BIAB Forum!

You were able to put a glimpse of your entire life in one song. That's a feat.

Enjoy the "ten" you are in now!

You've got a decent voice (wish I did), good musicianship, and the ability to put a song together. What I hear right now that's keeping you from getting to the next level is that you're shoehorning words and lines, trying to make them fit where they don't. I think it's an easy fix with a little forethought.

Quite a story, very interesting, maybe we should all do a song like this to get to know each other better.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
