I am using 2020 and find I can not do what I was doing with previous versions.
When I created a new song and satisfied with it I would render it to WAV and the 2 files appear together in whatever folder I save them to. I name folders for each year ie 2019, 2018 etc and put all new and revised songs in these folders. In previous versions I would open these old files, play them, perhaps edit or refresh them and resave to the original folder and then save to the latet year folder as well as 2020 for playing and performing.
Here's the problem: previously when I saved the file to a new location both MGU and WAV were saved together
and appeared the same as in the old folder. Now in 2020 when I do this only the MGU is saved and I have to render the file again in the new location.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and knows a solution?

If your .MGU has an audio track, it will be saved as a .WAV file with the same name as your .MGU. If you save the .MGU in a different folder, the audio track will automatically be saved along with it in the new folder. E.G. MySong.MGU and MySong.WAV

When you render a song to .WAV, the rendered file is typically called something like MySong_render.wav by default. This isn't the audio track for your song, but is the rendered version, so will not be attached to your song like the audio track is. My point is that perhaps you were previously naming the rendered versions of your song MySong.WAV and that's why you are noticing different behavior.

Thanks you Andrew for your reply.
Your opening comments are exactly what has been happening in all versions I have used prior to 2020.
In versions before 2020 I would always follow the same procedure:
Create a song as MGU. Render as WAV and save. Both files appear together in the same location.
Open the MGU file to play and the audio in attached to the MGU file. Everything is good
The problem now is that if I simply wish to save that song to another folder, say from All songs 2019 to All songs 2020, only the MGU gets saved. I then need to rerender the file in the new location to attach the WAV and save. I still finish up with MGU and WAV in the new location but this process was not required before. It's more of a nuisance than anything. But I thought there may have been some kind of fault known to users that could be sorted out.

Hey Bill,

Here is what I do BEFORE I render the WAV ...

I create a sub folder underneath the folder that I saved the MGU under and name it something like "100 BPM". When I render the MGU to WAV, I simply instruct BIAB to point to that new folder. Works like a charm for me.

Hope, this helps!

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks Mike, What my real problems is that the method I used in BIAB 2016 and 2018 does not work in 2020. In the previous versions I could open any of my rendered files and play them. The MGU and the WAV appeared together with MGU above the WAV. Because I save song in files named Songs 2018, 2017 or Songs 2016 etc, I sometimes want to open one of the songs from these locations and save to my current catalogue Songs 2020.
Previously I would simply open the song, then hit "save as", nominate the new location and both MGU and WAV were saved exactly the same as the original files. When I do this now only the MGU get saved and I then have to rerender it. It's not a huge problem and I can still finish up with MGU and WAV together in the new location but I was trying to find out if this is a problem that can be fixed.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
