iv'e been convinced for almost a year now that biab could not do straight eighth or quarter notes. but i figured out tonight that using the bass pedal settings it will do eighths for sure. but what about straight quarters?
thanks for any and all help

Hi,

I'm not quite sure what you mean but this might help...

BIAB styles come in two broad categories. In stylepicker there are sw (swing) styles and ev (even) styles. These are then subdivided into eighth-note styles and sixteenth-note styles.

The images below shows a little more about these classisfications and the types of notes the different categories are based on.

So if you are wanting to get a straight quarter-note feel of 1 2 3 4, ev8 would be your best choice of styles.

Hope this gives some insight,
Noel

I'll check those. I realize i wasn't too clear. It was late LOL!
I meant force the BASS to play straight quarter note. Kinda like you can using the bass pedal settings in chord options. You can tell it to play straight 8th notes. I was wondering if you can force straight quarters?
Thanks!

The B section of most swing styles have a walking bass (often playing quarter notes).

Ahh... that extra information clears it up for me.

In addition to what Matt says, it is also possible to set many, not all, Realtracks to "simple". For some styles, this will certainly help you achieve what you want. The thing is to try a few out.

Just follow the 1, 2, 3 on the image below.

Regards,
Noel

Ok, as it greatly annoys me when people respond to my "request" post as if they were a "how to?" post, then after reading your other (more detailed) thread about this, I decided to rather put the following into this one:

While waiting for a proper implementation, you can go the long route and re-type the desired chord 4x over into each bar, turn the "Ignore slash" checkbox ON in song settings, and use a Held bass (either one of the existing ones or check the "Held" checkbox in the main RT Picker interface).* This will give you a factory RT bass which repeats the same note on each quarter beat during a single bar, just as you wanted...well, 99% of the time, just to cover myself here.

I know it's not the quick'n-easy thing you prefered (and that's obviously where your Request post comes into this), but it's the closest to next-best I could think of.

*It might be an idea to do this after you've rendered all the other tracks to your liking and freeze all but the bass.

Or - until PG just properly makes some - You can get pretty far with the Pop8thsSteady bass RealTrack by setting the track's timebase to Half Time (add Force to Simple if it's still too varied)! cool
Bass usually copes very well with even the most extreme of tempo ranges, so in theory this could be just the thing.

EDIT: Found an even better one - Bass, Electric, PopPower4s - and we have a winner! laugh

Awesome! I'll check when I get time. I've been away from BIAB for a while.
I had another thread along this same topic but I never really got anywhere with it.
I will gladly give this a try!
Thanks to everyone for all the great help!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
