As above. Brand new drive going in PC with pre-installed Win10. So full new install of my BB2020 will follow. Any known pitfalls that this very technically unsavvy user needs to be aware of? Ian

Hi Ian,
BiaB is working perfectly for me on Windows 10. My installation was an upgrade from the previous version, but I'm not aware of any issues.
The only things to check are your sound system settings, e.g. selection of MME, ASIO, WAS audio drivers, and VSTi settings from the Options > MIDI/Audio Driver setup dialog.
A suggestion is to make sure all of the audio sub-system works on the computer OK before installing BiaB. That way, you know where to look if you are tracking down an issue.

Hi Trev Thanks mate. The PC will be back in a few days time. It'll be a culture shock for me - I still use BB in XP, to PGs Andrew's dismay. Lol Bests Ian

FWIW I just did a fresh W10 install a few weeks ago, and because I like a challenge I threw a new audio interface into the mix. Actually did it twice recently in two locations. Everything works and much better than before.
Just make sure you do the clean re-install of BiaB to C: and make the logical selections in the options along the way (like where you want to store/run Realtracks from etc). This will be different for everyone, but you've done it before so I assume you get how it works.
Long as you do at least the minimal install to C: drive BiaB seems fine .. at least on the new systems I've worked with
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I wouldn't expect any trouble with BIAB. You'll have a bit of reorienting from XP to 10, but BIAB should present no challenge.

I love Windows 10, though I miss the days of getting under the boot sometimes (DOS). You still can but the learning curve is a bit steep for me. You want the constant updates in my humble opinion, but if you can afford it, I would recommend an Azzure support contract. I pay around $70-80 US per year to Microsoft and any problem they come in remotely and fix it. I've only needed them twice, but very good. Never lost anything and I'm on there beta test programme so I get stuff earlier than most. I signed up and paid for it when I needed it - looking at the ubiquitous blue screen! You may never need it. Enjoy. Think of it like luxury cars but cheaper than Apple! My family is Apple and it costs me a fortune.

Thanks for the info. To be clear - my PC has an XP drive and a WIN7 drive. The Win7 has developed a fault so a brand new drive is going in with Win10 pre installed. Currently XP works great, love it in fact. Will the new drive automatically run using same settings? AND - Can I simply copy over my entire Ultra + extra packs etc (massive!) to it and it will run? Bests Ian

Currently XP works great, love it in fact. Will the new drive automatically run using same settings? Short answer: No. The Windows 10 drive will have its own settings, changes to the registry, O/S and much more. AND - Can I simply copy over my entire Ultra + extra packs etc (massive!) to it and it will run? Short answer: Not exactly. You will need to run the BiaB installer program to do this correctly. This is because certain system fonts are required and they need the installer to load them. You should be able to do a minimum install though, and then copy everything from the old drive to the new drive, maintaining the directory structures. Then run the Cleanup utility (Help > Utilities > Run Cleanup routine)

If you can retain the current hard drive within the system as a second drive, you may not need to move the RTs or RDs at all. Just tell BiaB and RB to look to that drive for these. It's all part of the setup/install process mentioned above. Pay attention to the options along the way.
I run the RTs from a totally different drive than the applications (as do others). This actually improves the performance in some scenarios. That said, I also have a backup copy on an external drive or two just in case. Also, PGMusic keeps a copy of what you have purchased in your account (in their store) Re-downloading and reinstalling would be no fun, but at least it is there as an option.

I use Stardock's Start10 app (I think it costs $5, and similar to Classic Shell). It gives me a Windows 7 start menu look and feel, but also provides access back to the Windows 10 start menu.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
