You Are The Day

This song started, once again, from a dream. In it, a girl with a lovely voice was singing the chorus melody (and maybe some lyrics also, can't recall) in an American Idols contest and I said to her that if I had a record company, I would sign her immediately smile Well, more than a year passed by and there was a lullaby song contest on a local forum. I looked for a gentle sounding song from my archive and found this one. I wrote the lyrics in Finnish (translating what existed from the chorus part) and used child sounding Vocaloids to sing it. It got very warm reception, so I thought it would be nice to share it with you one day. But the translation was difficult part, how to translate nursery rhyme type of alliterations etc.

And now here it is. I think I managed to capture something from the original mood I hope my English is not too clumsy, I'm just wondering how fluent text a native poet could have written... It would have been better to be sung by a child (or a girl like in my dream), but no child was available so I decided to sing it myself (with some gender modifications in the lyrics), although I used some Vocaloids in the ending part.

RealDrums: Congas

Lyrics:

You are the dawn that wakes me up
you are the day that lasts for a lifetime
you are the summer that sings me lullabies
gives away the bride
nurtures 'til I die.

This story started from a small seed
a little lady laughs now in her cradle
the wonders of the world in blue beads
sitting snickering
the first steps of her fable
all her dauntless deeds.

You are the dawn...

A dinky doll, the plan of a pixie
a tiny tender twinkle in her dimple
a romping baby barefoot carefree
scrambles to the swing
she loves life sweet and simple
stalls and falls asleep.

You are the dawn...

Close your eyelids
slowly swinging
sleepy kid.
To the shadows of the world
slumber slumber
sister, my little girl.

What a pretty song!!! And a wonderful arrangement (congas are a tiny bit loud at times). I think I am going to play around with "your band".....such a nice blend of instruments. Melody and lyrics are fantastic.....may be my favorite of yours!! Take care. Greg

Lovely lyric, vocals and production.

The RT/percussion selection is perfect for the lyric.

Thanks for taking the time to redo it and sharing...

Most enjoyable... and relaxing!

Ahhh (pronounced awe). A conga-playing friend of mine would say the congas are perfect, but I agree more with Greg that they are a bit loud. Love that "kid" effect. It really makes it. I hear what you mean about having a child sing this one, but you did great. Your English is wonderful (especially compared to my Finnish). I live this line you are "the day that lasts for a lifetime."

Enjoy whatever happens!

Beautiful, especially liked the music box over the strings. Nice poetry also.

Hello Jannesan,

You always have different sounding songs, with an original story. That is what I like in yours songs. And ths one is no exception! The story is even more nice. A lullaby song contest... Never heard of! At first I thought you were singing about a newborne babygirl. Then reading your lyrics and saw that wasn't the case. So, a very lovely song you made with this one. I got a smile on my face listening to it.
I agree with Greg the gonga's are a bit too loud compared with the other instruments and also with the kind of melody. But you did a fine job with this song. I am curious how it sounds in Finnish. Must be nicer (I once had a Finnish girlfriend...)

This is super. Great vocal and super lyrics! The backing tracks are outstanding. Excellent work!

I thoroughly enjoyed this.

Lovely backing, terrific melody & sweet lyrics though I think dauntless is out of place.
Cool song.

Thanks Greg for your positive words smile I had more electric band first, but I thought an acoustic approach would be more suitable for a lullaby. And I agree about congas - the loudness could wake up the sleeping child, I had difficulties to find a suitable percussion, but then I realized that congas have this ancient hypnotic effect to help fall into trance.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
