Here is some distraction during this tough time. I received this song on WhatsApp yesterday. It is doing the rounds like wildfire. So this morning I was awake at 4 (as usual) and I made a play-along video.
What a terrific production on this song. Funny it is being dubbed as "8D". What is 8D anyway?
What are your production tips on getting an effect like this?
Even with my cheap Apple earbuds it sounds like you are in the middle of the room where a performance is taking place. Make sure to listen with headphones.

Wow! That looks easy. Gonna have to give that a try. Thanks so much Tony!

This sounded interesting, so I downloaded the AMBEO Orbit plug-in and tried it out. I used an MP3 I had that featured a BIAB style I made to create synth arpeggios. I must say it was very easy and I finished the whole thing in minutes. I probably could have done better with some more experimentation, but it was fun. Here is the result:

It is gimmicky, but still fun. The track without the 8D gimmick is also on my soundcloud page for before and after comparisons.
That is really interesting. I think I am going to give that plugin a try.
Thanks for posting this.

To me it sounds like someone walking around to differnt parts of the soundstage with a boombox. On this particular song, as far as I listened, I found it totally gimmicky which is not necessarily a bad thing depending on taste. I might use it as a special effect but it's too much spice in the soup for my taste for a whole song.
Thanks for sharing this awesome remix of Billie Eilish's "ilomilo"! I love how music can provide a much-needed distraction during tough times. The "8D" effect on this song is really intriguing. It's like being transported to the heart of the performance, even with my basic earbuds.
That is weird indeed. Certainly caught my attention as the music moved from left to right and then back over and over. Not sure I was lovin it. Kind of a distraction to the music itself to have so much movement. But maybe this is something new??
As for production tips, I'm not an expert, but I've found that using panning techniques and spatial effects can create a similarly immersive experience. Experiment with different levels and positions for each instrument or sound element to create a sense of depth and movement. It's all about finding the right balance and creating a captivating sonic landscape. While browsing online, I stumbled upon themed crosswords centered around Billie Eilish. They're a fun way to test your knowledge and show off your fandom. You might find them interesting and enjoyable.

Took a listen... To me, it sounds like Billie became a fly with a real loud voice which is flying around my head and transmitting messages. Definitely not my type of music listening experience.
Automating panning/spatial as mentioned by Rikudo could do similar. Also, there was a free "dimensional" plugin from Cakewalk that had this sort of effect.
