interfaces are like noses everyone has one and each blows them own mind, er what? Anyway, I prefer Presonus, and a side benefit is you get a entry level version of their DAW studio one. my personal favorite. I started with the artist version and slowly upgraded till I have the Pro version. I love it and would not trade. I have used cakewalk, reaper, and two or three others and Studio one has to my mind the best work flow. There are those here that prefer Focusrite. both rock pick one.

Lenovo Win 10 16 gig ram, Mac mini with 16 gig of ram, BiaB 2022, Realband, Harrison Mixbus 32c version 9.1324, Melodyne 5 editor, Presonus Audiobox 1818VSL, Presonus control app, Komplete 49 key controller.

Also, many of us here use Focusrite as well.
Either interface should be fine if you have USB2 or 3.

Actually I just went to hook up the controller and apparently the PCR M80 is now discontinued. The last driver Roland made for it was for Windows 8/8.1. Would it work with Windows 10?

For my last project 11 years ago, all I had was the controller, ProTools and Reason. I'm guessing Reason was the softsynth you're alluding to?

How do I find out if I have a USB2 or 3? I have a USB hub, if that helps.

Most likely it'll work, but you'll need to test on your given system though
Just making sure; you understand the Roland controller drivers are totally separate from the Focusrite drivers, right?

That was way back in tech terms .. things have changed a whole bunch since then.
It's possible that Reason was indeed the synth, however getting it to work now may be more challenging than the above item, now that it's 11 years later.

Ideally check the motherboard specs if you know them, or computer model number.
Even if the hub claims to support USB3, if what it plugs in to (the computer) only supports USB 1 or 1.2, it doesn't matter. The core system (your computer specs) define your limits of connected equipment.

If I recall you mentioned a 10 year old Phenom II processor (the system) so my money is on the the chances your USB is not meeting the need.
If that's the case, don't try to solve the USB issue separately from the system. You're due for an upgraded system IMHO. Your USB may be an issue (one of the issues) .. getting Reason working is another .. the controller drivers are yet a third issue.
I'd worry about the controller drivers last.
A new controller is cheap, if that's the problem, but the 8.1 drivers will likely work.
The other issues will help determine which direction to throw your money. I wouldn't invest in anything until the core computer system is in a known good working condition.
Then you can eliminate/replace peripherals.

That's just how I would approach it from your position.

No, wasn't me. I don't even know what that is.

I did find this on the web last night for my controller and think I set it up as it says: https://rolandus.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001506723-PCR-M30-PCR-M50-PCR-M80-Connecting-to-a-Computer
I won't know for sure until I get CW, BIAB and the mBox working.

I also found a workaround for the mBox but am having trouble accessing it in DropBox:

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
