DonM in his latest thread update seems to have "fixed" it by doing a Windows Restore.
When I tried that I had no Restore points available, probably an oversight from me, so had to do a Windows recovery.

For future reference, it would be worth knowing what the cause is.

I think there was a Windows 10 update at some point that messed up audio on some computers for some programs. I also think this was fixed in a subsequent update. My point being - can you check if there are any further Windows updates available for your system?

Also, if you open the Device manager and look under Sound Video and Game controllers, what do you see listed there.

UPDATE . . . .

Well, it's a day and a half or two later, and haven't heard from anyone about the resolve. So . . .

For whatever reason, I just opened RB, opened a random file/song. Hit PLAY.

Both sides are now playing! Lefty and right. Tried some panning while tracks played.
No problem.

I cannot mark this thread as resolved because, IMHO, the problem has not been resolved.
No one can figure out what happened, nor I'm sure will they figure out how it fixed itself.

Overview of what happened.

Right speaker stopped playing even though volume monitors show output to left and right. There
was actually output. I rendered a file and played it in other software and there was music playing left and right. Just no sound was coming out of the right.

Verified that 1). Speakers were OK. 2). Tried some files in RB, then BIAB, then PT, all worked fine except RB no right. Tried the same files in other software. (Windows stuff, OK. Mixcraft, OK. WaveLAb, OK.

After the typical troubleshooting stuff (rebooting, etc.) AND doing a complete BIAB re-install, Then DLing BIAB FRESH off line, and again, re-installing everything, there was no change.

Today, 2 days later, it's working!?!?!?!?!

IDHAC!

Most of us are pretty sure it was a Windows update that both caused and cured it.
See the first part of Andrew's post.
Apparently it only affected 'some' systems, but a later Windows update seems to have fixed it.

I'd still mark it as resolved.
It's fixed, and I'm pretty sure we know the cause and solution.

The other users with the same issue fixed it by either Restoring or Re-Installing Windows.
You waited long enough for another Windows update to fix it.
All signs point to Windows update ..

Glad to hear you're up and running again, your symptoms were the same as mine.
Since the consensus is that this was caused by a Windows update can we assume that PGM will prevent future occurrences with a build update?

I don't think PGM has any control over this. I have had my Roland Octa-Capture messed up with a Windows update and the driver comes from MS!

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Guess what? Worked for a few days, then a couple days ago it does the same thing. No right speaker again.

Did another Windows update occur?
Most likely on Tuesday

I don't know if there was an update. But that means there were 3 updates within about a week, because one made it not work, the next one it worked again. Then the 3rd made it not work again.

There have been 100s of updates over thee years. Why all of a sudden do they prevent only ONE speaker from playing, and ONLY in RB, not BIAB or PT. Or any other software I use?

I could understand it, kinda, if an update killed a stereo function, and you only got mono. That could make sense. Both speakers would still work.

But what can you possibly do in ANY computer program to disable one speaker?

I have no idea, I'm just reporting what others have observed that had the same symptoms.
It could be an update to the internal soundcard, and soundcard chip dependent.

It sure is a weird one.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
