Hi, I just downloaded the new BiaB 2020 for MAC and I cannot find the option to set the metronome while playing a song!!! In "preferences" it seems there is non chance to do it but I rememberers that old Biab versions allowed to set the metronome (visual and audio) during the playing. Thanks for you help

Hey there!

In the Preferences menu, there is a button that says Count-In/Met.

Clicking on that allows you to set the options for a visible and audible metronome.

Let me know if you find that, or if you need further assistance smile

David,
thanks for your reply but as I wrote in my previous message I need to have the metronome (audio and/or visual) not only during the simple count-in, but can find only the flag "Metronome during recording": this means that I can listen to the metronome during the all registration...In Biab for Windows (a friend of mine has the software") there is the specific chance to set the metronome also when playing a song!!!!
Could you clarify that???
Thanks

Hi,

In the StylePicker if you enter "metron" in the filter/search box, you should find four metronome styles that will be useful for you. You could load in this style by itself if you want, but I'm assuming you have other (non-drum?) tracks in your song.

You could right-click on a track and select 'Use custom MIDI track'. Select the Drum track from one of those metronome styles.

Andrew,
thanks a lot!!!!
Your advice solves the problem to use the Metronome style picker in the Drums track...The only problem is that I don't have the Drums anymore during the playing....With your suggestion (I hope I really understand) It seems I can substitute the "Drums style" with the "Metronome style".
Probably I made a mistake...
Please, could you help me furthermore????
And for the future, don't you think it will be useful and easy to implement insert a specific preference in order to use the metronome also during normal playing a song???
Thanks in advance
Orazio

Andrew,
I have just downloaded the BiaB 2020 Manual for Windows and at page 86 ("Lead-in Counts and Metronome") there is a clear picture in which you can easily verify that there is a specific section ("Metronome Options") where you can set the "Visible Metronome" and the "Audible Metronome" during solo recording, recording and playing and solo playing......
Instead in Biab 2020 Manual for Mac at page 359 ("Preference Dialog) there is the picture where there isn't any chance to set the metronome while playing and furthermore there is no Visual metronome!!!!!
It is quite strange this relevant difference because the metronome is very useful!!!!
Please, suggest to modify the program in the next upgrade in order to pu the metronome in the version for Mac.
Thanks again

Yes, the method I suggested would replace the Drums track. I was assuming that if you needed a metronome, that you didn't already have a drum track. I have submitted the metronome during playback request.

There are a few ways you can achieve both a Drums track and a click track. The easiest way is probably to just add the click track in the same way I described but to another style track that isn't being used - for example the Strings track. Just make sure that when you choose the custom MIDI style that the assign track is "Strings", and the "From" track is Drums. However, since this is a MIDI drum track, it wants to be on channel 10 otherwise it will sound like a pitched instrument. There is a trick you can do, Options | MIDI Settings, and set the Strings track to channel 10. You will want to remember to change it back later so that any styles that have a MIDI Strings track will play properly.

There are other solutions as well, If you are using RealDrums, you could use Multi-Drums feature to add a second RealDrums to the Drums track. There isn't one that is specifically a click track, although it wouldn't be a bad idea for us to have one. You could also put the MIDI click track on either the Melody or Soloist track. Set the track type to multi-channel if you do this, so it plays drums properly.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
