Hi, with time on my hands, I thought I would explore Midi......again.

I am using Reaper as a DAW and certainly not familiar with it but slowly sifting through the videos.

I have downloaded Amplitude and it has created a folder in Program Files(x86) -
IK Multimedia and inside that is AmpliTube3 and the Authorization manager.

In the VST Plugins folder in Progran Files(x86) folder is dll files for Amplitube3 and Sforzando.

There is also PowerTracks DirectX Plugins ??

In the "other" Program Files there is another VST Plugin folder with -
dll file for Sforzando VST x64....
and another PowerTracks DirectX Plugin

Further down there is a folder PLOGUE...(did I create that?) and inside is -
Aria, Sforzando and TableWarp 2

Even further down in the Program Files is -
Steinberg and inside that is VST Plugins and inside that is Kontact Factory Selection Library.
These seem to be all over the shop so just wondering if these should be all together somewhere so Reaper can pick them up. If I appear to be confused...your right.
Happy Easter.

LONG WINDED description to follow:

Let me start with the DO NOT's: Do NOT try and MOVE around DX/DXi plugins. A DX’s and DXi’s are a class of Windows applications called Direct X (e.g., "Powertracks DirectX Plugins"). After they are installed SHOULD NOT be manually moved around - they need to remain where they were installed.
That’s because when the corresponding DX or DXi is invoked (used) it looks to the Windows system Registry for certain information, location of “where installed, ” etc.

Direct X “stuff” is not trivial to move around and should be left alone.

As for VST/VSTis (aka Virtual Studio Technology and Virtual Studio Technology instruments) is an audio-interface plugin tech originally developed by Steinberg, that’s why some things just like to be installed to a “..\Steinberg” folder. The restrictions for moving them around, for more logical or user required organization is ALMOST unrestricted (again note the - ALMOST).

In general, again IN GENERAL: VST's/VSTi's (e.g., "Sforzando VST_x86.dll", "Kontakt.dll", ...) can be placed/moved almost anywhere. And, as you have noticed, they can be spread out over multiple folders. This less then unified approach to VST/VSTi placement is sometimes just because the installer software does this without input from user, sometimes it is because you weren't paying attention at install time as to where it asked you to place them, ...etc.

So, again “in general,” you can keep all and move all your VSTs (e.g., reverbs, delays, compressors, EQ’s,..) and VSTi’s (Sforzando, Kontakt, SampleTank, Halion,…) to one or two folders so your DAW doesn’t have to look all over the PC for them. However, some VST/VSTi’s have supporting files (like tables they may need or reference) and those should remain where they are. Although most of those (VST supporting look up tables) can also be moved after install. Many VST/VSTi’s, if they have and need supporting “tabled” information and the VST/VSTi cannot find it, will ask you “where is it?”. This just requires a little trial and error on what can be moved and what can’t. It hurts nothing to move a VST/VSTi's "look up table" (a .dll or entire sub-folder) and try it, if it fails just move it back.

I keep all 32-bit VST’s and VSTi’s in my C:\Program Files (X86)\Vstplugins\ “ folder, and all my 64-bit VST and VSTi’s in my “C:\Program Files\ Vstplugins\” folder.

Some folks keep VSTs in one folder and VSTi’s in another, again sub-grouped by 32-bit or 64-bit.

And some folks don't mess with it at all and just have the DAW (and you the user) look in many locations or search the whole drive.

As a side bar: “Table Warp2” is an virtual analog synth instrument which can be/is loaded in Sfozaondo. If you move it you need to move entire “Table Warp2” folder and then Sforzondo needs to be told where it is (using its import) because Soforzando will complain it can’t find Table Warp2 the first time you open Sforzondo after moving Table Warp2.

However, since you even asked the question: I’d leave it and the entire “C:\Program Files\Plogue “ folder alone for now.

Good luck
Larry

Most of the better ones will self install and give you the option where you want them to install.

Others may not. With VST's that install a DLL file.... just remember the location of the installed file and move it to a folder for DLL files. In the DAW, you tell it where the file folder is located and you should be good.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
