Hello All,

I have recently utilized Audio Chord Wizard and I was able to get some desired results, such as: the chords for a song, but I was not able to view any notation (after clicking) on the 'Notation' button to see notation of a song.

I saw all the chords within the chord sheet, and I saw the chords in the audio chord wizard timeline bar, but I was not able to view any notation of any kind, anywhere in the song.

I tried two songs, that I purchased; songs that are professionally produced and on the charts, for example. Maybe there is something in the code script in the mp3 that won't allow notation of songs, but only chords to be extracted? I don't know.

If anyone can answer this for me; it would help me to 'move on' with my projects.

Thank you!

Cate

Thank you!

Cate

Hi Cate,

ACW is only an interpreter. It analyses the chords to a song and passes on that analysis to BIAB.

How the chords were analysed stays within the software and it is never brought out to the open. Thus melodies and notes of chords are not passed to BIAB.

If you want to see the notes that make up a chord, it is necessary to find a suitable BIAB style for the backing and then generate it.

Should you want a program that fully analyses the notes in harmony and melody (from an audio file) then Melodyne Studio will do that.

AFAIK Melodyne Editor will work also, plus it is less expensive. The Studio will analyze multiple tracks but a MP3 is only one track. When they say multiple tracks they mean two or more individual tracks from a DAW. If I am wrong about this please let me know.

Also notation is for MIDI so the audio will have to be converted into MIDI. Again the Melodyne Editor will do that and although it is the best program to date to accomplish this there still may need some editing to the converted MIDI. But again the MIDI output will contain the entire song.

What I would suggest to the OP is to purchase a MIDI file of the song. It will contain all of the sounds on different tracks. Then they could import that file into the free Musescore notation program:

https://musescore.org/en/3.0

Or they could purchase the sheet music for that song. This is what I generally do.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

I think what the above posts are saying is the ACW (by definition) is an Audio Chord Wizard. It'll give you a chord chart, but BiaB/RB need MIDI for notation.

The above suggestions offer the best solution(s) for direct notation from audio (though best does not mean perfect).
ACW tells you the chords and aligns them with a tempo, that's all.
Melodyne tries to give you the notation as well.

Think of ACW as being able to give you a chord sheet, aligned to a tempo map of the audio.
You can hear the original audio and see the chords for it in time with the tempo.

But then after that you have to be creative for the next part.
You could play/record the MIDI to a new track so you can see the notation .. because PGMusic products require MIDI for notation.

The ACW shows you the chords and sets up a tempo map so you can easily record/generate your tracks in sync with the original audio.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
