This piece is something I've had in my head for some time and BIAB gave me an opportunity to arrange in the way I "hear it". IT went through Reaper to trim the intro. I'm pleased with the result and am now working on lyrics. This part would be the solo break between verses.

Thanks - the solos were generated about 5 times each before being frozen.

It's still not entirely as I would like it to be because at the moment I can't see how to make chord changes on the off-beat of a bar at the end of a phrase. The tune is in C minor and I would like the penultimate bar of the A section to be :

- Beat 1 : Cm
- Beat 3-and (off-beat of 3): Gm
- Beat4 : D
- Beat 4-and (off-beat of 4): Cm, carried over into final bar for full duration of bar

or alternatively

- Beat 1 : Cm
- Beat 3-and (off-beat of 3): Gm
- Beat 4-and (off-beat of 4): Cm, carried carried over into final bar for full duration of bar

The only answer I can see is to double the number of bars and the length of each chord so that each single bar of 4 beats now takes up 2 bars of 4 beats, but that would take some time to do.......

I think it sounds good thus far. I am curious as to how you are going to fit a vocal in it though.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Ray,

"Closer In" sounds really nice. The sax is sweet. I’m not sure the genre of the lead guitar works for me—it hits all the right notes but it the genre seems a bit too “country-ish” to my ears--but maybe that's your intent, and if so go with it--artistic choice rules. No matter, though, it's a good tune! Nicely done!

All my best,

Deej

Ah that is where the fun starts. The posted work is purely meant to act as solo breaks between sung verses and doesn't contain the strong melody line that I have chosen not to pubish at this stage.

I will probably be three vocal verses,
solo break 1
1 final vocal verse
Solo break 2 to close off...

Thanks Mike - much appreciated!
The choice of soloists leaves some people uncomfortable, however for me the sax and pedal steel express two very different things. The sax works in C minor with plenty of tension (not always resolving, which is great). The pedal steel in C Major has nicely melodic and "resolved" feeling for much of its solo (8 attempts to get the current realband solo...) - it then transitions back to C Minor, leaving a contrast between stability/resolution for most of its work and uncertainty/tension before handing back to the sax (or in the final version to come, vocals).

Sounds good, Ray. You're Closing In, man. Not sure if this helps, but... Right click on the bar in question and select Chord Settings from the dropdown. You'll see (in this song) the 4 beats at the top left. You can click on the radio button for the beat, enter the chord (if it's not already there). Then just below you'll see where you can push it by an 8th or a 16th. Hope it helps.

Also, I agree with Deej on the mismatch of genres.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Welcome to the forum! A nice first post! The combo of lead instruments was unusual but interesting. Take care. Greg
