This is probably a very easy question, but after trying several things I couldn't solve it, so any help is appreciated.
I'm starting to use Realband for the first time and want to record different MIDI tracks. My MIDI controller is installed and works fine. In the track view I can set different MIDI instruments and I can record on the tracks. But when they play back they play back the same instrument sound on both tracks even if the instruments are different. Likewise if I select each of the different MIDI tracks and play my MIDI controller I hear only one of the patches instead of the patch which corresponds to that track. It's like it can only process one sound at a time, which seems odd.
Go To "Edit" > "Track" > "Make first 8 tracks BB tracks". That will set the first eight tracks as midi tracks and each of the first eight tracks will use a different midi channel.
Press Ctrl + F5 to open the "Preferences" window > "MIDI" > "MIDI Devices". What are the settings?
Thanks Jim. I have MS Wavetable selected there (there's an option for MS Midimapper). I did find a way to make it work by assigning each patch it's own channel. I'll take your suggestions also.
if you use the coyote synth (which comes with BIAB and RB) as your default dxi synth in the same window as shown above it should automatically work as a GM midi synth and play the instruments set in the track dialogue
at least that's how it works with me - although i use edirol hypercanvas soft synth but the principle is the same.
Here is an extract from the post below should help.
So back to Realband For simple every day use I would set my midi settings to Route MIDI playback to my default Dxi/Vst synth. And this is fine if that is the only synth I need in the project But see below .
One of my must have preferences is to have the selected track voice play thru from the midi keyboard not the default piano.
This is easy in Realband’s Options / preferences / midi /midi thru / set track specific This way if I am recording a trumpet by playing notes into a track while recording I hear a trumpet or what ever other instrument I choose on any track I hear that tracks voice .
Here link to full post for reference may be more than you need right now, hence the extract

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
