I have been using BIAB since 1993 - version 5 on a Mac. I think this is my first wishlist request.

Would PG Music please consider adding one more package to those it currently offers? I will call it MIDIPAK; it would contain the BIAB program plus every MIDI item BIAB has but no audio, neither Real Drums nor Real Tracks.

All MIDI Super Tracks (including the 11 MIDI SuperTracks from the 49-PAK)
All MIDI Styles
All MIDI Solist
All MIDI Melodist
MIDI Songs & Lessons PAK

MIDI is editable in ways that audio isn't and as nice as the audio is, it isn't what everyone needs and so it seems a waste of money, disk space and download time to buy what we don't need.

Many thanks, PG Music.

Seems like a reasonable and simple request for those who prefer only MIDI, and there are several such regulars here, so perhaps there are many more out there.

A MIDI only package could be useful.

The all midi pack would be a new sales addition for those users that want all the midi PG Music offers but do not want or need the audio offerings.

A SUPER BIG +1

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Look Ma, no RealTracks.
Yes midi is more flexible.
I find EZDrummer 2 great for getting the drums just how you need them.
RapidComposer is exactly that, will fit any midi anywhere on the chord track to any chord/scale.
MusicLab RealGuitars, I just upgraded to RealRick 4 with a chord track and lots of humanize features. You can feed the midi out to any Kontakt instrument, other vsti or just DI out to Amplitube.

These combine with the PG apps is all I need.

Every year I'm forced to buy real tracks I never use just to get a handful of midi supertracks (and what is worse many of those are only included in the bonus 49 pack!)

Sure, not everyone likes the RTs and some want control of every detail. I'm cool with that, but I really enjoy having the RTs. I feel like I'm playing with a real band every time I use them.

If PG Music made a MIDI only BIAB, I could see it sell for $50-100. I don't how hard it is to code MIDI,but I don't think it should take less than couple of months to make a MIDI only BIAB.

You have a MIDI-only BIAB now. If you didn't have any RealTracks, you'd just get a lot of N/A messages, but it would work fine for MIDI. I presume you mean you want to remove the features related to RealTracks and RealDrums.

I took this suggestion more in terms of package content (akin to Audiophile versus not), which the OP seems to have put emphasis on, rather than features or capabilities as such.
And, having said that, even if I personally put big focus on RT's, that's me and my preference. I still can absolutely see the value of a designated "All-midi PAK" in addition to the others. Not everyone wants that pepperoni on the 'preconfigured' pizza smile

Absolutely. The RealTracks are a bit of fun for practicing in my basement, and I use that for some educational things. But for a professional grade production, we need MIDI content.

I often use BIAB MIDI tracks as a bet to start an arrangement of big band music, for example. That content may or may not remain in the finished product, but it extremely valuable for the iterative development of the arrangement.

And for music tracks that will be used in professional settings, I almost always will want to edit the content to some degree and then synthesize it myself using the exact instruments that fit the setting. Somehow it seems that PGMusic doesn't understand MIDI is still a very heavily used standard. As much as I have always loved BIAB, there are many times that we really must use the strengths of several products and MIDI is the only practical way to do that.

I don't personally care whether there is a MIDI-only package. I'll pay for the audio stuff ii I have to, but if you aren't adding any significant MIDI content, there just isn't any reason for me to buy anything.

Thanks for the suggestion and +1's.
This is an excellent idea that I've passed to Marketing for review.

Keep them coming!

Thank you, Alyssa.

Maybe it will happen next time as I have just upgraded to the 2020 BIAB version and there is still no MIDI-only package. I live in hope.

What about add-ons?
Seems there are plenty of Midi packages:
https://www.pgmusic.com/addons.more.php?os=win

P.S. I would definitely interested in some MIDI items from above, but I do feel they are a bit pricey. Perhaps a larger package for the money?

I completely agree.

I have to start looking at the RT charts as that may be a way to increase my MIDI. Note 99.9% of my music is MIDI, I rarely use RT or RDs. I know that I am in the minority here.

FWIW Norton music http://nortonmusic.com/
is an excellent way to increase your MIDI styles.

3 years have passed, the new 2023 versions are out and Marketing has not yet managed to review and comment on our request. If you ignore customers long enough they may eventually go away.

+1 for revival and reconsideration of this request.

As I re-read my comments, I see that a question arose. In such a MIDI-only version, would you want the many menu options that relate only to RealTracks and RealDrums (we didn't talk about RealDrums) to be removed, or perhaps just grayed-out as a user option?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
