Hi all, a noob here! I have recently got the latest BIAB 2020 and am in the process of updating loads of tracks done using BIAB 2010! to take advantage of the new RTs. I had successfully rendered about a dozen or so of these to mp3 to upload to my drive, but all of a sudden, am now experiencing terminal problems. When I save as an mp3, the yellow box appears informing me that the rendering is in process. I have discovered that rendering to my hard drive rather than an external drive speeds up the process, but now a 5 minute track won't render, and I get the 'not responding' error. To get out of this I have to close BIAB, losing my settings, and with no mp3 to show for my wait. Sometimes I walk away from the computer for 20 minutes, but no resolution takes place. Do these tracks render in real time, i.e. a 5 minute track takes 5 minutes to render? It certainly didn't seem to take that long a couple of weeks ago! Am I missing something obvious? Your assistance would be gratefully appreciated!
I had similar problems, but if I waited long enough it finished. However, 20 min seems too long. I got the "not responding", too, but eventually it finished, within 6 min or so.
Thanks for the reply - hmm, I left one for 25 minutes this morning and it still hadn't finished, and I had to close the app down to get anywhere. Another one not finished! I had a thought though; perhaps I should open the offending file from within BIAB rather than double-clicking it from the File Manager and forcing BIAB to open that way? Worth me giving it a try later on just in case! AndyB
Thanks, but I'm not sure quite what you mean - should I hit Return if the app freezes for an abnormally long time (25 minutes this morning), or to end the process without having to close down BIAB? AndyB
If I open an old BIAB 2011 file, it refuses to render after editing, so I need to type in the chords afresh from scratch, at which point it renders in a couple of minutes. Thanks all for your help!

Andy, that don't sound right. While 2011 is a long time ago, BIAB has always made claim of full backword compatibility with this stuff. I have files that go back well beyond 2011 and will test your hypothesis. In the mean time you did use the RTF setting button, right?

Hi Dan, I did return to factory settings, but this didn't seem to make any difference. The rendering process still hung, and I had to use Task Manager to close the program (this was after leaving the machine well alone for 45 minutes). On a lighter note, I managed to write and render 8 files in just over an hour, including finding the correct changes on PDF first, so all in all a success! I would be interested to know if you have any further theories though, as time spent retyping can always be used more profitably elsewhere!
You mentioned you edited your 2011 file before rendering to MP3. Did you save the file before you rendered?
What if you try to render a 2011 file before editing? I bet it will render okay.
Try loading a 2011 song file, editing and then saving the project under a new name, for example load mysong.sgu edit and then save as mysong1.sgu.
I suspect the editing is causing a mixup between the 2011 and 2020 settings.
Something else, sometimes RealBand can straighten out a song file that decides not to work in Band-in-a-Box. Load the sgu file in RealBand and then save as a sgu file with a new name. RealBand and Band-in-a-Box use settings differently. Some settings Band-in-a-Box uses, F5 settings for example, don't get used in RealBand.
