A break-up ballad.

SHE'LL HAVE TO BE THE ONE

i was the one who pushed through the crowd
and asked her to dance when we met
i was the one who ran for the car
in the rain so she didn't get wet
i was the first to confess my love
i held her each time she cried
i was the one who mentioned forever
she'll have to be the one to say goodbye

she'll have to be the one
to tell our friends it wasn't meant to be
she'll have to be the one
to talk about her need for being free
when it's all said and done
she'll have to know she broke somebody's heart
   made somebody cry
she'll have to be the one
she'll have to tell me why
she'll have to be the one to say goodbye

i was the one who made the first move
to make up whenever we'd fight
i said we always had to be truthful
whenever it didn't feel right
i was her strength, i pushed her on
when she felt she could no longer try
i still believe love lasts forever
so she'll have to be the one to say goodbye

she'll have to be the one...

Hi Floyd,

Another great song and a great BIG sound which hangs together well when played up LOUD.
The strings are stellar and the drums really powerful. That kick drum nearly brought my
sub off the wall. I listened to this with my wife, who's really a "Northern Soul" girl and
even she said it was good!

Your vocals, which are always good, were particularly impressive this time out.
Lots of textures in the arrangement and an excellent mix.

Maybe a backward step (after last time) with the solo, but I won't mention that...

Always very professional.

Cheers,
ROG

Hello Floyd Jane,

Captivating composition based on a joyful and nostalgic text at the same time. You have a superb voice which gives a real cachet to your song.

Floyd,

Another great tune—they keep coming! Vocal is stellar on this—lots of depth and emotion—sits perfectly in that mix, superb. Wonderfully done!

Oh, and thanks for the link to the free strings download—I’ll have to check that out!

Hope all is good with you,

Deej

Floyd,

This sounds great!

Man, I was stunned to hear you playing guitar last time. That was awesome.

But I had NO idea you could play violin like this! Wow! Man. It sounds almost like the BBC Orchestra!

smile

Remarkable!

Oh, wait that was the BBC orchestra. Never mind. Still love the song though. You know I ain't right Floyd.

Sad but beautiful song. There's this beautiful tinge of melancholy in your voice, despite the major key, etc., which - for me - carries this song the extra mile. You sing it like you mean it, too - which is another "extra mile" feature of this song. Simple but to the point, too. Well done.

Another great job. Excellent write.

I personally found the strings to be a bit too dominate. But it's a matter of taste I reckon.

All in all, well done.

You are one awesome story teller. One winner after another. Your mixes are always so good, as are your vocals.

Another winner.

A deft touch in the use of strings.
That electric piano is aggressive on the attack at the beginning of phrases.
Lovely song and arrangement.
It has a Jimmy Webb sung by Glen Campbell quality to it.

Hi Floyd ...

Your musical magic never takes a break! Simply put ... it's awesome. Thanks for a really wonderful listen.

Let's see, for country songwwriting greats there's, Tom T., Harlan Howard, and then Floyd Jane. And I guess you could throw Jeffrey Steele in there, too. Regardless, the Floyd Jane name, in my book, is a very comfortable fit in that select group.

Best to you & yours. be safe ...

Alan

Man, I love your vocal on this! You are doing something different with the processing I think than you normally use? Sounds fabulous.

Drums sound great, the kick is right where it should be, toms and snare too; you get more out of realdrums than most.

I also like the strings, cool that you did that via midi controller. I really need to learn about midi one of these days wink

And of course great writing too!

Really enjoyed this one, floyd, listened a few times.

Hi floyd,

I haven't been into the forum for a while.

What a song to come back to! This is stunning. The melody flows along so beautifully and your vocals carry this musical journey with the sound of authenticity that is only possessed by those who have spent decades practising and refining their talent. In addition, your 'band' is the perfect backing ensemble.

To my ears, this song sounded like it belongs in a stage show. In my head, the male protagonist is singing to a picture of his girlfriend/wife and making a commitment to himself that he will travel whatever road this love of his takes him. Moreover, he is reaffirming that he is 100% committed to his partner unconditionally. (The world would certainly be a much better place if we could all learn how to love one another unconditionally.)

From start to end, you kept me travelling along with a smile on my face and a warm feeling in my heart.

I sincerely appreciated listening to you sing this excellent composition.

All the best,
Noel

Hi Floyd,

Something different here! A ballad with very strong vocals and very nice strings in it.
Very nice composition and arrangement!

And the way you did this all was intriguing: bottle of red, bottle of white...
Good days must be coming soon, after this sound!

A nice day,
Hans

Thanks, ROG - and thanks to your wife smile - I had look up "Northern Soul" - the term was new to me - how could you not love that stuff!!...

Thanks for mentioning the strings. That was a main part of why I chose to do this song...

Floyd,
A simply beautiful write; direct and heartfelt with those nice details of the first verse drawing in to big chorus declarations.
The strings work for me- thanks for putting up the link.
I agree with other listeners reminded of great pop and country balladeers; your vocal communicates that well.
