This will get chords from Biab to Impro-Visor
You can export export the sheet from Impro-Visor as MusicXML to Biab,
you can also import the saved midi into Biab, giving you midi and chords.
Biab:
File > Save Special > Save Song As ABC Notation File..
Copy to Clipboard
Web Browser:
run "Steve Mansfield's Abc music tutorial.htm" from unzipped folder
Paste in page > Process Chords
Copy chords only
Impro-Visor:
Paste into Textual Entry box at the top of Impro-Visor > hit Enter
you can also > Utilities > Leadsheet Textual Editor and paste in there under Section style then click Editor to Leadsheet.
If your chords are on 1 and 3 | G A |
if they occur on other beats like 1 and 2 add "/" | G A / / |
1 and 4 | G / / A |
slash chord will be | C/G |
If it's not taking a particular chord add it in Utilities > Voicing Editor
*It's setup to have have a chord or more per bar, so you may need to add or remove a bar line "|" in the Textual Entry box then hit enter to correct the chords in Impro-Visor. See pic below to edit in the Leadsheet Textual Editor.

EDIT: Updated to insert bars without chords
EDIT: Updated to put chord on correct beat 4/4 & 3/4
EDIT: Update to get chord on beat 2&3
Biab ABC to Impro-Visor.zip.mp4

The Biab ABC to Impro-Visor.zip.mp4 (remove .mp4) is a modified version of the link below, it will remove the bar new line start "|" and the "" around the chord names "Dm" > Dm

Impro-Visor (short for “Improvisation Advisor”) is a music notation program designed to help jazz musicians compose and hear solos similar to ones that might be improvised. The objective is to improve understanding of solo construction and tune chord changes. There are other, secondary, things it can do, such as improvise on its own. It has also been used for transcription. Because rhythm-section (e.g. piano, bass, drums) accompaniment is automatically generated from chords, Impro-Visor can be used as a play-along device. Now having a wider array of accompaniment styles, its use is not limited to jazz.

Dear Pipeline

I already fail at the first step. No matter which tune I copy (through save as ABC to clipboard) to LeSession, I keep having "" and bar lines. Is it because the chords have "attributes" like m7 of 7b9? Cause in your video it seems to copy just fine and remove ""'s and barlines.

As to the zip-file, I try to understand what to do, but I don't get it. Sorry.

I think you are really literate in ICT, I see you do cool stuff, but I can not wrap my brain around the complexity of it. For you this might be easy, for me, it just doesn't work.

Totally in the dark here. :))

Best regards

Here's a couple of Impro-Visor Sax Solos, chords were exported from Biab to Impro-Visor that created the midi solo that was imported back to Biab Soloist track.

This works. I used another instance of the ABC-converter (online version) and that did not work. This, however, does.

The good thing with Impro-visor is its' ability to play correct bass and piano parts on almost every chord.

The bad things I see are
*The styles don't have good dynamics: each hit of the drums, each bass note has the same velocity.
*The solos are harmonically correct, but don't sound musical or jazz at all. The algorithm they use for the solos is complex, but lacks musicality. In BIAB it is more of a collection of licks and phrases and they fit it into the chords. In this case a lot of harmonic mistakes are possible or you should program every chord right (which BIAB doesn't), but on the other hand, the phrases and licks sound instantly more musical and jazz.
*I have not found a way to play holds, accents, pushes yet.
*It's impossible for me to make styles from MIDI, there must be a way, but it sure looks difficult.

Anyway, a cool job on letting us translate from BIAB to impro-visor. Impro-visor to me is a brilliant thing but lacks flexibility, dynamics and a good soloists engine.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
