I am praying for something y'all. But I do not know it's name.

PRAYING FOR SOMETHING
BY DAVID SNYDER

https://soundcloud.com/david-snyder-gigs3

V1

I am walking down an empty street
Where my whole world used to be
Is the problem out there somewhere, y’all
Or is the problem inside of me
Is it something that I said one time
Or something I left undone
I wish that I could say I’m sorry
To every place and everyone

CH

So I'm praying for something
But I do it know its name
While I am waiting for the sunrise
While I am waiting for the rain
I am not ready to surrender
To my anger and my pain
So I'm praying for something
But I do not know it’s name
So I'm praying for something
But I do not know it’s name

V2

Now I’m trapped inside a burning world
That used to hold my dreams
And I know that all our secret wounds
Are deeper than they seem
Is it something I allowed one time
When I turned the other way
I cannot speak my answer though
Cause I don’t know what to say

CH

So I'm praying for something
But I do it know its name
While I am waiting for the sunrise
While I am waiting for the rain
I am not ready to surrender
To my anger and my pain
So I'm praying for something
But I do not know it’s name
So I am praying for something
But I do not know it’s name

Bridge:

Is it something that I said one time
Or something I left undone
I wish that I could say I’m sorry
To every place and everyone

CH

So I am praying for something
But I do it know its name
While I am waiting for the sunrise
While I am waiting for the rain
I am not ready to surrender
To my anger and my pain
So I'm praying for something
But I do not know it’s name
So I'm praying for something
But I do not know it’s name

David, this is really good. It reminded my a lot of John Prine. You picked the perfect backing tracks for this song. This may be your best vocal to date.

Excellent song.

I like your writing and music. You know that. But this, this is on a whole new level. Brilliant lyrics and the music is the perfect compliment. In addition, probably, if not your best vocal ever.

Nicely done sir.

Holy. Moly.

WOW.

"Now I’m trapped inside a burning world
That used to hold my dreams
And I know that all our secret wounds
Are deeper than they seem
Is it something I allowed one time
When I turned the other way
I cannot speak my answer though
Cause I don’t know what to say"

O.M.G.

That would be enough to label this "great".
But, then....to follow with this:

"I am not ready to surrender
To my anger and my pain
So I am praying for something
But I do not know it’s name"

Jaw. Drop.

I am SO glad you did this in a true-David-Snyder voice. Your best vocal ever.

This is great song writing. I do not say that lightly.
I can give you no compliment higher than... I would be proud to have written this.

WOW.

Yes, I agree...brilliant lyrics. I'd like to to add that the chorus is exceptionally good--it's poignancy strikes at the heart. Well done, Dave!

Hi David,

If I were there with you brother, after a long, silence...
I would just say Wow, just wow. This is such a poignant, thoughtful and emotion provoking song.
It reminds me of "The Answer is Blowing in the Wind", only, I say in sincere honesty better.
Thanks for posing it.

Good choice with the guitar - it's a good contrast with the vocal line.

Bringing in the strings on the second half was really effective.

Love the title, and the rest of the lyrics don't disappoint!

Nice emoting on the vocal as well.

Good song!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hello David ...

I fully agree with Mario's comments - particularly the John Prine reference. I like the simple arrangement ... perfect for the piece. Sometimes I just pray because it gives me warmth and comfort ... nothing particular. Just the connection.

Again, excellent! loved it! Best to you & yours. Be safe!

Alan

A brilliant write, David, matched by a very good vocal- tender and a real.
I guess its just me: I was wishing that busy guitar track away, leaving the piano & cello behind you.
Very very fine songwriting; up there with your best.

Man, we were immediately hit with a Billy Joe Shaver vibe...

This pretty much exemplifies the whole singer-songwriter thang...

We'd quote fav lines but that would be the whole song.

Outstanding David.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
