Hi all, About this time last year, our son Neil, who is a professional photographer, was fortunate enough to make a journey to the Norwegian island of Svalbard and from there to hitch a ride on an icebreaker to the edge of the Arctic Circle. This is a small selection of the photos he took, accompanied by a soundtrack which I put together. The soundtrack was completed entirely in Powertracks, using only PG Music DX plugins - a testament to just how good this inexpensive program is. For this track, I put down my trusted Telecaster and picked up my second favourite guitar, a Jazzmaster. For those who are interested in such things, it was recorded through my old Peavey Backstage 50 with the Celestion 10in speaker and miked up with a Neuman U87. The only effect added was the PG Echo (Guitar Medium Trails setting). I know that one or two of you are keen photographers, so I hope you like this offering. Many thanks to all who have time to watch and listen. SVALBARD AND THE ARCTIC CIRCLEStay safe, ROG.

Just wondering if your son got to give those cute little white puff balls a scratch behind the ear when they were sleeping.

Hi Rog Lovely playing to accompany your son's stunning images. He was indeed fortunate to visit that amazing part of the world (hope he had a nice long telephoto lens to snap those bears). Regards, Leon

Really enjoyed this, ROG, well done! Hi Dave, Many thanks for the kind words - coming from a guitarist like yourself, it's very much appreciated. That tone is just down to the Jazzmaster - not as popular as Strats and Teles, but a much underrated guitar in my opinion. Cheers, ROG.

(a bit jealous over that U87 ) A GREAT listen! fj Hi Floyd, That's very kind. I always value your input and I'm pleased you liked this one. That U87 - yes, it's one of only two bits of kit which I hung on to when we sold the studio back in the 90s. I couldn't bear to be without it. It's a fabulous mic, but it can be too transparent at times - it shows up all the deficiencies in my voice! It would sound great with your voice though and if you lived just that bit closer, I'd be happy for you to borrow it... The other bit of kit? The Syntovox vocoder! Many thanks for looking in. Cheers, ROG.

Very calming atmosphere created with beautiful top quality photography. Although the pictures are full of snow, ice and cold, they are still serene and heartwarming, like those sleeping ice bears and the rugged rocks that seem like a human hand has never touched them. Enjoyable guitar work fits the mood.

Stunning photography and music.
I (Bud) have had a love of photography since childhood and Janice is also a fan.
Every image has a lot to say. We are aware of the environmental stress on polar bears and the poignancy of their images speaks to that.
The cliff shots of the birds are amazing. Janice was the first to spot the huge number that were perched in addition to those in flight.
The melodic playing and wonderful tone ... well, it would be hard to imagine a better soundtrack for the images.
You two make a great team and we are sure you are proud of one another.
Sublime!

Hi ROG ...
Amazing and heart-touching seem inadequate to describe the calm and soft pleasure both the music and the photography left with me. But, they're the only words that even come close. Neil must have been born with a camera in his hand ... and that guitar track is simply mesmerizing.
Two top-of-the-ladder pros demonstrating why they're at the top. what a wonderful treat. A heartfelt thanks to both of you!
Best to you both. Be safe ...

J&B Hi there J&B, We've spoken about photography before Bud, so I particularly hoped you'd see these shots. Neil's been lucky enough to travel all over the world taking photographs, but I think he rates this trip as the high spot. As you say, a lot of these environments are in real danger so it's good have a record of how it is now. So, thanks for looking in, for the review and for all the nice comments. All much appreciated. Stay safe. ROG

Oh, wow. Your guitar sounds outstanding, ROG. Man, you really make those amazing photos sing. A wonderful blend of creative media. A heartwarming display of the not-far-from-the-tree saying. I've been into photography for years, and love going places like that. When someone takes those opportunities and turns them into that kind of magic, I am not envious; I am grateful. Thank you both.

P.S. Maybe it is my setup, but mix is a bit hot in my headphones. Hi Misha, Many thanks for the positive review. Those of us who worked with tape in days gone by tend to mix "hot" - we were always fighting tape hiss and trying to maximise the signal to noise ratio. Hope it didn't hurt your ears! Cheers, ROG

Wonderful photos accompanying a great guitar piece. Your licks are really fine here, ranging from clean and melodic to quite nasty. You're really making it talk. The band is solid and the mix is really good here on the phones. A memorable listen.

Your son is an excellent photographer. I believe I have seen a couple of his polar bear shots either in one of my photographic magazines or some on-line photographic sites that I am on.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
