I'm returning to BIAB after about 10 years away. I believe the last version I had was 2009. Stupidly, I backed up the actual installation, but not the installer. PG says they don't keep installer files that old, which is obtuse since the patches for those versions are still live. I suppose it would do me no good without a serial number, but ...

Does anyone know how I might get the installation exe for BIAB 2009?

PG says they do have a record of my account, so maybe I can recover my serial through them.

Also, does anyone know if 2009 would even run under Windows 10?

I don't know. It might, in Windows 7 compatibility mode. But BIAB 2009 was the very beginning of RealTracks, and perhaps something is telling you it's time to upgrade. You will be amazed at the progress made in eleven years.

one answer is that 2009 will run under windows 10. i ran 2008 until a while ago when i upgraded to the complete new program and all RealTracks.

if you backed up the installation, presumably you have all the styles you had. not sure if 2009 had much in the way of RealTracks. maybe RealDrums 1-3 if i remember correctly.

if PG have your records maybe you could upgrade to 2020 reasonably cheaply. it knocks spots off earlier versions and it would use all your existing styles.

then if you like the new version wait for the 2021 sale and get the lot like a large percentage of us that upgraded have done.

Thanks. Good to know it will run under current versions of Windows. I actually have quite a few of the early RealTracks sets, and yeah, I have lots of styles from back then.

"You will be amazed at the progress made in eleven years."

Not to ask for a complete run-down, but what would you say are the main/best elements of that progress?

Thousands of RealTracks is the main one.

MIDI SuperTracks are cool, too.

64 bit
DAW plugin
New mixer flexibility
Realband (did 2009 have this?)

.. the list could go on and on
2009 was eleven years ago. That's a lot of new stuff.

Maybe even more important; if you need help with a newer version there's likely many more people around to offer accurate help
Not many of us even remember what 2009 did/didn't include .. so when you ask for help our answers may not apply for you, whereas they would if you had a newer version.

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Thanks, folks. RealTracks and RealBand had just started then. I thought they were a great idea then, and I can only imagine how things have progressed.

There has been a lot of changes since 2009. It may be worth the peek at the link VideoTrack provided.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
